Title: My arcade cabinet project
Post by: quintinbiker on September 15, 2011, 04:43:44 am
Hi everyone, I'm still new in this whole furm, but already built my own arcade cabinet before i discovered it.

Here's my project, i hope that you would find it interisting, or helpfull.
Your comments or sigestions or opinions is welcome, i could do with some ideas :)

Parts

Built my cabinet from scratch with my own plans, to build the wooden shell, took me about 4 days...
I'm using a AMD motherboard with celeron cpu 1.8 2 gb ddr 3 ram, and 500 gb hardrive for the pc
X-arcade controler buttons and joysticks.
17' LG CRT monitor that i gutted, with sprayed pirspex infront.
35 watt rms gutted chinease amp with two 35 watt surround shielded satelites and subwoofer.
bought two secondhand coin mechs from a guy in Umhlanga, here is South Africa.

Software
Currently using MAME 1.38
Maximus Arcade
DWjukebox
Windows xp with my modded registry
And teamviewer for remote access.

Here's my pictures.

I'm still not 100% satisfied with my cabinet like: control panel, need marquee and artwork, have to somehow put spacers in by my screen, it's pushing the pirspex to make a rounding, which will make it difficult to lay pirspex on the cp afterwords. And want to take the wooden edging off my cabinet and replace it with nice t-molding. And then more cosmetics here and there.

i'm open for any sigestions etc.

Not bad for your first arcade.  :applaud: What type of artwork did you have in mind? If you decide on changing the control panel I think some lightup buttons would make it stand out more.

You think light up buttons will look nice? My CP is not very big though :) .
Well, i've got no idea what artwork to go for or marquee... I first want to decide on things like that before doing anything further.

I am a motorcycle lover, been thinking what i could come up with, but don't know.

I don't know much about motorcycles but how about your two favorite bikes on top of the control panel with an awesome looking helmet in the middle. These helmets look pretty sweet!

Hey buddy, that's quit a neet idea :)
Thank you :D

Will see what i can come up with.
Mmm...
Yellow yamaha R1 or Yellow yamaha xt 500 on the one side, and a blue Suzuki Bandit 1100 or Hayabusa on the other side...

And a background to it, then a helmet in the middle, suppose i can do a marquee the same way, and call my cabinet SpeedCade or something like that? With a blue t-molding on one side and yellow t-molding on the other side?
