Okay first post. Just discovered all this "Build your own Arcade" stuff 2 weeks ago. Ipac, KVM switches and all these arcade supply stores... so exciting!!!!
I'm gonna do it... in the spring. But! until then over the winter I'd like to get a game plan down. The design/Wood working part I got down. No problems there.
So this is what would be awesome.
1 Arcade Cabinet that houses a Mame system (pinball buttons, trackball all that jazz) and an Xbox 360 controlled by one Control panel for both systems (trackball mame only). Is this possible? What I have been reading is no... Microsoft will not allow xb360 pads to be used on a PC.
But what if I hook up an Ipac as you normally would, hack a 360 pad with the wires going directly to the buttons. Could that work?

There are folks here who know all about what you want to do, and have done it themselves, but I can can confirm that wired Xbox pads (or in my case, I have a couple 360 arcade sticks I want to use for projects, one Hori EX2 and one HRAP) are great for PC.

When you say "wired Xbox pads" do you mean the XBox 360 or Xbox 1?
So your saying just get a Hori and convert it into a full control panel?
-
It is possible, that is what I did on my cab

So let me get this straight... Im right?
Just to be clear.
1. Hook up PC controls using an Ipac4 or Ipac2 (whatever)
2. Then hack 2 or 4 Xbox controllers bypassing the Ipac straight to the buttons.
That's it? Do they need to share a common ground?
-
Easiest way to do it is to hack 2 xb 360 pads

Okay then how do I connect the controls to the PC?
-
usb, the controls are recognised by windows, if the particular emulator doesn't support it you can use xpadder

Oh.... that is awesome. Thanks guys. :applaud:

In Light of Xmapper which answers 80% of my questions (thanks again). I got 2 more.
1. I really like Pinball games on the xbox360 (Williams collection mainly). I assume this is doable but just to be sure. The trigger buttons. Can I duplicate their function? Meaning have the 2 triggers as buttons on top of the CP and run another wire from the xb360 pad to the sides as well? Just checking.
2. If I wanted LED buttons can I use LEDWiz or will that screw up the XBox 360 controls? or is there a better way?
-
Not sure bout question 1. I believe the trigger buttons are fine as those hori pads are digital not analog?
question 2 is easy - you can use ledwiz or pacdrive to light the buttons as the wiring for the leds are seperate to the buttons microswitches so wont interfere with xbox
-
Get the street fighter iv pads and hack them. The triggers ate digital, no need to convert them from analog

Wow cool. Thanks. In mame is it possible to remap the buttons....... I guess it is... sorry stupid question.
-
If I got the Xbox control route can I still use a trackball?
-
I'm confused, looks like you have to solder to that PCB, plus its expensive, I got my pads for like 25 a piece.
Anyhow, yes, you can remap buttons in MAME. If you want a trackball, just get a USB one. I personally don't think they are worth it.

Has anyone experienced any issues with the latest Xbox 360 update and the Hori interface?
-
No

Seems like you had success hacking these. Ive been reading up on them and apparently they are a arcade hackers dream. 2 questions.
1. Where is the LT and the RT?
2. What are those buttons on the beside the start and back?
-
i use them aswell, but was hard to find new in my country, i had to search 2ndhand market websites for them
lt and rt are on the shoulders of the pad
in the middle is a turbo function and on the back a analog stick to 4way pad switch

Yeah, all the wired hacks I do for people now are done using the MadCatz FightPad. Best bang for the buck...
@Donkbaca, the pads are no longer $25 at vpgames. They're back up to ~$40.

Fantastic.. thanks I think I'm going to go with these.
There is a four way and 8 way switch on the back. Should I leave it switched on 8? Or does it matter?
-
There is no Street Fighter at my local EBGames only a wwe-all-stars-brawl-pad, however I think I can safely assume it's the same thing right?

On the back of that controller? It's a D-Pad / L stick / R stick switch... Just leave it on D-Pad (center position)

Most likely. It looks like the same exact controller, just different printing on the shell. Has all the same functions.

Bummer. VP games is a good place to get stuff cheap though, keep an eye out on them.
THe madcatz fightpads are by far the best way to connect to a xbox 360 and a PC, seeing as how you can find them cheap on occassion.

I was just able to find a couple used ones on Amazon for about 25 each
