So I am trying to wire up Ultimarc's U-trak trackball to Randy T's opti-wiz but I can't get it working right. Basically I can only get the x axis to work and the y will not work at all. The U-trak documentation is here http://www.ultimarc.com/trackball.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/trackball.html). According to the opti-wiz instructions the x axis runs on A-B and the y axis on C-D. There are several other hookups on the opti-wiz though im not sure what they are all for. On the trackball you can see that there are 8 wires and 4 run to each side of the trackball. Red is 5v and black is ground on each side. Green and yellow are x-axis and blue and purple are for y. I tested the voltage coming off of each wire and I am not getting any reading off of the blue wire when the trackball is at rest. All other wires show some type of reading between 1-5 volts. Each wires voltage varies when the trackball is being moved. Now when the i test the blue wire when moving the trackball it measures a very low voltage like .07 or something like that. I am leaning towards thinking that blue wire is to blame for my problems, but I would think that since I am getting a reading from the purple wire (blue and purple are for the y axis) that I should be getting at least one direction of the y axis moving. For example, the mouse should be moving up but not down. But, I get no movement at all. Only the x axis works. So, thats my situation any help would be appreciated as I don't have a real great understanding of how all this works.

If you haven't gotten the info by tomorrow, I can look at my TB tonight. I have a happ trackball but it looks like the wire colors/pinouts are the same as the u-trak. I have the old turbotwist interface as well.
I figured it out a few months ago based on looking at reply #1 here:

It will work, don't worry.

the first thing i would try is to hook it up backwards, so that the x-axis is wired to the y-axis on the optiwiz, to see if the problem moves. i had the exact same problem when i hooked my utrak up to my optiwiz, i emailed Andy at ultimarc and he had me try a few things, like hooking it up to the opposite axis on the optiwiz, and also swapping the optical PCBs inside the trackball. as it turns out, one of my optical PCBs was defective, and andy sent out a replacement quite quickly

I have a feeling that I may have a defective PCB too because I tried hooking it up a few different ways and only the one side seems to work. I'm gonna test a few more things but hopefully I can get them to send me a replacement if I cant get it to work.
