Title: Does "no isolation transformer needed" means it can plug directly in the wall?
Post by: ebo0763 on September 02, 2011, 06:34:29 pm
I don't have an arcade power supply since I'm making a mame arcade from scratch. Anyways. I have a WG k7400 which in the book says that no isolation transformer is needed.

My easiest solution, if possible, would be to just plug the power to the regular 120V AC plug from the wall. Or do I need an "arcade power supply"?

BTW, actually I would like to plug it on a surge protection bar.

That model has a switching pwr supply so you can run it directly off wall current.

FYI, most arcade monitors (WG 4600,4900,7000, Electrohome G07, etc) *do* require an isolation transformer, so if yer not sure, check into it or ask someone who knows monitors. You can damage a monitor that needs an iso xfmr by trying to run it without one....

not to thread jack but i was wondering if anyone knows if a makvision 2425 monitor needs an isolation transformer to power it. the one i have has an ac connector on it but it looks like someone added it. i was told that it came out of a soulcalibur 2 cabinet. i cant find any manuals or real details about this monitor other than that its discontinued and not supported by makvision.

From the schematic I found online it is hot chassis, so yes you need and iso xfmr with that monitor.

If you don't need the isolation transformer, is there any way to power an arcade monitor directly with your PC's ATX power supply?

If your monitor is 12vdc/5vdc, yes you can (ATX/PC Power Supply are not 120VAC)

OP: You can hook up your Monitor to the ISO it won't hurt it. Thats what I did with my WG72xxx monitors.
