Title: CP buttons - did I have it wrong the whole time?
Post by: frotter on August 31, 2011, 10:29:13 pm
Hi All,

I feel like a bit of an idiot asking this question, but here goes!

I have nearly finished my cocktail cabinet and it has an extra control panel down the side so that you can play simultaneous games as well. This control panel has 6 buttons for each player set out in the usual fashion of two rows of three. Now, which button would be considered button number 1? Would it be the first button on the top or bottom row?

I had it all wired up and working with the first button on the bottom row configured as button 1, then the next two buttons on the bottom row as two and three. The first button on the top row is button 4, then 5 and 6 on the top row. Have I got this the wrong way around????

Thanks.

It doesn't matter. You can set it up however you want.

I do bottom 1-3, top 4-6. Nothing gets accidentally hit.

Yeah, for games that use less than 4 buttons, I prefer them on the bottom. Would rather not be resting the palm of my hand on other buttons when I don't have to.

Personal preference.  I have mine the other way around.
My guests instinctively go for the top left button first.

My theory is that the people who grew up using gamepads on newer consoles prefer their arcade panels to start on the bottom row because that's how the gamepads are laid out.  The older consoles only had one row.  ;D

I quit consoles after the overpriced disappointment that was the Sega CD.
