Title: AdvanceMAME in dos cant get it to work.
Post by: lostinarcade on August 27, 2011, 10:23:58 pm
so im trying to get AdvanceMAME in dos. im booting into dos 7.11. when i try and configure the display drivers , i select pc monitor on first page, and then any of the 3 pc monitor options, after that i select any one of the centering options. after that all i get is a black screen and no matter what options i chose it just wont display anything. now from what i understand there should be some sort of test screen so u can resize the monitor... but i just dont get anything. so ofcoarse that means the program wont work. how do i fix this?
my plan is to use it on my arcade monitor , but first i want to setup all the roms and things on my pc first before trying it on the arcade.
reason i want to use it , cause 15khz dont work with my intel onboard display and everything i have tried with in that regard has failed sofar, i have a topic about that in the monitor section.
hope someone can help me out.
why cant these things just work :( i surely hope this mame cabinet project is worth all this stress...

Is your video card in the list of supported cards?

Bob means your video hardware isn't supported.

found the supported card list.
http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/doc-carddos.html (http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/doc-carddos.html)

also a good note. cause im trying it on my laptop now.. so im going to plug in an external monitor...

"Please note that some laptop video cards work only when connected to an external monitor, and not with the LCD screen. "

First: AdvanceMAME is a variant of MAME - an emulator. (AdvanceMENU is a front end.)

Second, people need to read all the docs, as well as about how CRTs work and why, before even opening the zipped files.

'Hard' is having to coding things like AdvanceMAME to do the fancy stuff it does.

groovymame...especially the live cd is the new "advancemame".  I tried advancemame and got it to work with my ati 9250, but sorting through the available resolutions was tedious.  Plus, the refresh was close, but not completely accurate so you'd get tearing and hitches.

Groovymame live cd does native res and perfect refresh rates and is current with the MAME releases.  Groovymame has a better videocard compatibility

+1 for GroovyMame. It's also available for Windows, with some modified ATI drivers to support more native resolutions.
It can also be used on 31kHz monitors by using exactly doubled resolutions, still allowing for perfect native refresh rates.

Is there a specific reason you are running Dos? Is it very old hardware?

reason was i could not get 15 khz to display correctly in windows cause i was using onboard intel display. pretty much was pointless even if i could get it to work , cause making sound work in dos aint easy... so i just stuck nvidia card in the pc and baaaaam it worked in windows...

now i have some little problem i cant yet solve.
here is my post.

You can't. Well, you could, if you know how Soft15khz adjusts the registry. Except, that's the whole reason for the app - so you don't have to.
