Anyone install a vortex spinner from Oscar? Is there anything special I need to know if I'm installing it in a 3/4" MDF control panel? Do I need to route the cp? Ok, I think that's enough questions!

Should fit perfect in a 3/4 wood panel, I have it in a 5/8 wood + 1/8 lexan panel (3/4 inch total) and it fits nice. if you have lexan on top of the 3/4" wood you might need to raise the spinner knob a bit... I guess it depends how deep a hole you have on the knob. I have an aluminum knob from an old stereo that I use so I can't speak for actual oscar knobs...

For a 3/4" control panel, you shouldn't need to route at all. The shaft is long enough for a 7/8" control panel, too, because the Tempest and other machined knobs I offer have enough adjustment due to the depth of the shaft hole.

The only thing that threw me a bit was that the hole you have to drill has to be much bigger than just the width of the shaft, since the top part of the bracket also has to poke throught it. Of course, the Vortex page (http://www.oscarcontrols.com/vortex/) flat-out says "a single hole in your control panel is necessary (5/8" - 1 1/8") for the shaft to protrude through", but I was like, "Huh? That sounds way too big. That can't be right." Guess what? It is right! ;)

Just in case anyone was wondering why this is, it was done so the Vortex was true to the original Temepest design.
The Tempest spinner was designed to be installed in a metal control panel in a standard button-sized hole, so clearance of the e-clip to the underside of the control panel was not a design criteria for the Tempest spinner. In order to maintain part interchangeability with an original Tempest spinner, I duplicated the dimensions of the Tempest bracket and e-clip location on the shaft.
