Title: Numeric wheel from Wavebird
Post by: SavannahLion on August 25, 2011, 03:55:45 am
This is irritating me. I want to find a numeric "clicky" wheel like the one found on the Nintendo Wavebird that sets the frequency (channel, ID code, whatever) for a project I have. But I can't, for the life of me, figure out what I need to search under?

I've seen "push"-type increment/decrement counters (what are these parts called? I'd like to have some of these as well.)
I found "paddle" type binary counters which is what I'm testing with right now.
Same with a switch type binary er... switch which is also what I have. Basically the same thing as the above.
I even found a wheel in a dead piece of hardware that clicks but no numbers (similar to the mouse scroll wheel). I'd take my mouse apart, but I happen to like it the way it is and besides... no numbers.

What I really want is that clicky wheel with the appropriately labeled numbers and I'd like to get one without trashing my Wavebird to get it.

Any EE guys know what search terms I need to be using here? Scroll and clicky wheel is out. Numeric wheel? counter?  I feel I ought to know this but..... :banghead:

I think that's called a "miniature ## position rotary switch", where ## is the number of positions you need.

Good luck finding one though, I haven't really been able to.  Actually it isn't so much that you can't find them, but they are usually the giant "radio knob" types that look like a pot.  Or these super tiny things.  The inbetween ones are hard to find.

This is the closest I know of, will it work?
