Why when i run mame 32 it sees more than 90% of the games but when i try and just run plain mame, it sees 2% of the roms? How do i fix this? thx :afro:
-
Plain MAME? Are you talking about command line mame? Are 32 and command line versions the same or is the command line earlier or later?
-
you mean DOS?
How do you fix the roms so they work with the latest version? what program do you use?
-
Ive never used command line MAME ive always used MAME32/UI, can I ask why is it necessary for you to use command line mame and not 32/UI?
-
well either way i get no wheel coming up :( Id love to use mame32 but i was told to use just mame
-
Are you using a frontend or are you just running MAME straight from windows? Also is this for a CAB or just a PC on a desktop?
-
im using maximus and it will be in a cab in a few days. trying to get it all ready

Dude, you need to supply more information. Basically what you're asking is "My computer is broke, can you help me fix?"
So, you're saying you can only see 32 roms. In what? Maximus or Mame? What if you try to run the games from Mame command line? Can you see all the games if you use Mame32?
-
Ok, i used maximus before I went over to hyperspin and MAME32 worked fine so I would just stick with that if it works for you. Your not gaining or losing anything by using it although the settings are much easier to setup in MAME32/UI. Once its running in the frontend you wouldnt even know what version it was anyway.
-
ok ok ok :) Im able to run mame32 now and it all works except.......there are about 200 roms out of 3000 that dont work and or make my computer crash. how do i get rid of those? Also i cannot get cheats to work :(
I think i got everything else figured out. This is with maximus. I cannot get Hyperspin to work at all, but im fine with that
-
My guess is that if your games are crashing while attempting to play the games either your PC has a problem or they are bad roms, also remember that some games require CHD files which a lot of mame sets dont have, if you try and run these without the files you will always encounter a file not found error. If i remember correctly in maximus arcade you had an option to filter unplayable games out of the list so that could be worth a try.
-
For Maximus you have to set it so the roms are scanned to add them to the list. Alt P and do configuration for MAME. Under scan set Force Rescan of Media Folder.

Did that and took out unplayable roms as well. But that made the problem worse as it took out roms that were working too :( Im running mame32 0.90 u1 if that helps. so where do i get these chd files and how do i rebuild?
As for cheating, where do you add "-cheat" too? it says command line. could you please give me an example. sorry for being duh :(
-
If your roms arent for the version of mame you are running they wont show up. You probably dont have a matched rom set. If the crc's dont match, they wont be added to the list.
-
Sorry i dont know much about cheats etc so I cant help you with that, also your rom set is pretty old so a lot of games probably wont be working compared to the newer sets. I cant tell you where to get CHD's as I wouldnt have a clue (i dont have them myself) but im also pretty sure the topic isnt allowed on this board also.

k i made a shortcut to mame and added -cheat at the end of it. After doing so the shortcut doesnt do anything. but as soon as i take out -cheat from the shortcut it loads fine. This is really weird cause ive done this in half life and other games with no problems.

But...this isn't Half Life, this is MAME.

Sorry, that wasn't helpful.
Cheats don't exist for most arcade games. There are some speed hacks and rapid fire hacks that I've heard of though. And possibly some NEO GEO games have some cheats built in, but that would be accessed from within the game, not from how you launch it.
Why cheat at games? I just never understood why people do that. :banghead:
-
When i used to mame years ago there were hacks for almost every game using mame.dat .. now things have changed and use something like .xml in zip format. I have that file in the main directory and checked off the cheat option but nothing is working
I like to cheat on a game after its been beaten
So theres no on on here that uses the cheat file or doesn't remember doing it years ago? :dunno

The cheat file stays zipped (you may need to unzip it once if its titled cheat.xxx, the file you need is a .zip file that is titled "cheat" and is zipped...leave it that way).
Just stick the cheat file into the main directory where your folders for roms, samples, etc are. It should enable the "cheat" options in the tab menu.

You using an absolutely ancient version of MAME. 0.90 was the first release of *2005*
This makes it pretty tricky to give current advice. I don't believe 0.90 used any of the cheat XML stuff, that's more recent, by using such an old version you're going to find people giving you incorrect advice. Some have also found builds of that period to be rather unstable on modern hardware.
Be warned tho, newer versions are more demanding, and you'll find a lot more games don't work with the existing ROMs you have, because newer versions require additional files to emulate the platforms more accurately.
MAME32 became MAMEUI in that period (to avoid confusion because there were 32 and 64-bit builds)
If you do want to try newer versions be warned, for the past 6 months MAMEUI has however been very buggy, and last week I think it's fair to say MAMEUI died completely. The last remaining shreds of it were ripped out of the MESS source repository, who were the only guys providing life support for it anyway. Going forward you'd be better accustoming yourself with the command-line version and a frontend. QMC2 seems to be the one most people are recommending. There is also IVPlay, which is a minimalistic frontend from the people who did MAME32/MAMEUI.

if i chose the command line version it would be up to date correct? so then how would i go about making old romset current to work with the new mame?
-
Try 'romcenter'... ;)

how the hell do you work this thing? i told it to rebuild but nothing was changed or downloaded.
this is getting really frustrating  :hissy: :dizzy:
-
if you want to use the lastest MAME, your OLD ROMSET will need to match with th elatest build.
Some games since .90 maybe did not change and it will work
Some games since .90 may not work cuase some files had been renamed
Some games since .90 may not work cause it's missing files whats been ADDED to the latest build
ROM MANAGER will not build your ROMSET if you are MISSING FILES (you need to get them)
ROM MANAGER will build your ROMSET if only file names has been changed
I think your best bet probably is to start over using the Latest Build and Download the latest ROMSETS or stick to .90 ( I stayed with .106 )

i emailed you :)
