Title: Panel mount power connectors
Post by: DeeGor on August 18, 2011, 06:21:54 pm
Hello,

I'm not sure if a device like this exists, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to find a panel mount connector that will allow me to run an extension cord from my wall to the outside of my cabinet.
Then on the inside, my power strip would connect to this same connector.  I guess I'm sort of looking for a panel mount extension cord.  I suppose I could just put a hole in the side of my cabinet and feed an extension cord through, but I think that looks a little ugly.

I have attached a crude diagram of what I'm talking about.

Thanks!

What is usually done is to use an IEC power connector on the cab.   A regular PC power cable plugs into this.  On the inside of the cab the IEC power connector can be connected to a power strip or a smart power strip.

Thanks for the reply.

My next question is: How do I wire the inside of the cabinet so I can plug my power strip into it?

Cut the plug off and wire it to the IEC connector.
