Title: would this work? GBS 8820 to VGA. VGA to Component adaptor to TV.
Post by: mrcram on August 15, 2011, 11:02:08 pm
So my Nanao monitor on my one of my daytona cabs crapped out.  Screen in burnt in and it would need a new chassis or replacement.  Here is what I am thinking.  Could I use a GBS 8820 video converter board that outputs vga.  Vga to component adapter to crt that has component input.  Would this work or would this just be crap?  I am just weighing my options on what would be the cheaper route.

If you're going to go to the trouble of scaling things (which getting medium res from Daytona USA to display on a TV or PC monitor will generally require), you might as well just put in a quality LCD, if you ask me.  You could potentially use a PC monitor at 1024x768 (this is an exact 2:1 scale of arcade medium res and will look decent) if you can find one big enough.  A 480i (standard def) TV won't probably look very good at all.  480i ("EDTV") might look OK.

Unless the tube's burn is bad, you might do better to fix the monitor.  Most problems are fixable, though the troubleshooting can take a while.
