I have a bunch of albums in a folder and I want to sort them nice and neat. I used some software about 2 years ago that did it perfect. Removed dashes, dots etc. So it was just a folder with artist-album and then in folder were the songs listed neat.
Can't for the life of me remember what it was called though. I tried MP3tag and 2 or 3 other freeware but they are all useless!
Any ideas of good software ?

I think what you after is ID3 TAGIT
Here's a link: http://id3-tagit.pluemper.name/ (http://id3-tagit.pluemper.name/)

Thanks! Will give it a try now.
FYI the download link for that is now ....http://um-hi.com/id3tagit/setup.exe (http://um-hi.com/id3tagit/setup.exe) OR http://www.peppite.com/ID3-TagIT-Setup.exe (http://www.peppite.com/ID3-TagIT-Setup.exe)
The original domain has expired.

Thanks for the new links... it's been a long time since i downloaded it,
I do find it very useful for renaming all my mp3's, both filename and id3 tags
-
I did try it alright. It is good for ID3 tag renaming etc, but its not ideal for what I was after. It does 1 album at a time which is fine but I have hundreds of albums. I used to have a program where I selected a folder with about 200 albums, clicked a few buttons and it renamed all albums by Artist, then a dash, then album, and in the folder all the singles. Think i will just do it manually.
Thanks for your help anyway.

I just went ahead and used the "MP3 File Renamer" trial version. It stops every few albums for a minute or so on the trial version but it does everything I need. Handy Program if people are looking for something. A bit pricey though just to sort out music folders!

tag & rename http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm (http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm)

I'm with draginit. Tag & Rename is by far the best tag management program I've found, hands down.

Just my 2p worth, I use a combination of both tag and rename & Media Monkey. (I haven't really decided which one I prefer).
The one thing I find with Media Monkey is where you have multi CD albums. It doesn't really know what to do with them. If you try to autotag it puts them in track order IE it will do CD1 Track 1, then CD2 Track 1, Obviously I want it to do all tracks on CD1 first then CD2. The way round I have taken is to tag them with the disk number, with added 1 so 1=11 2=12 etc. Then I use the rename facility to name them as Track1101, Track 1102 Track 1201 etc. (if i don't add the additional 1 then it does this Track 101, Track 201, etc. But if done with 2 digits when it pulls the info from Amazon they are usually in the correct order :) I am hoping I realised this without messing up too many multi track Cd's.
