Title: Is it okay to add caulking around bezel?
Post by: upper2bits on August 08, 2011, 05:50:22 am
There are little chips marks around my plexi despite using 150 tooth blade.   I was thinking of getting some black caulking and running a 1/4-1/2 bead around the entire bezel. Has anyone does this, does it look okay?

I havent heard of anyone doing that. Im not sure I would want to.
How about making a small frame out of some small wood (say 1/4" X 1/4") and paint that black?
You could glue it to the bezel or the cab wall, whatever would be easier and still look good.

Hmm, you think a small black frame would look better than some caulking?  :dunno

Some quarter round painted black and held in place with a few small screws also painted might give you a better look.

yeah, I guess I can try that first since it's easier to remove than caulking. :-)

Or just redo the plexi and use a router this time.

The sad part is I started to use a router but thought it was going to melt it so I switch to the circular saw.  I think the plexi was $10 so it might be worth it.  Can you sand it down, I would prefer to cut it but and make it fit snug in the cabinet.

Personally I just use electrical tape around (or in front of) the edges.  If you can handle a long strip of tape, you can get a nice finished look easily.

Do you have a pic that you can post?

Router worked best for me.  Clamp a board along the line you want to cut, and use a flush trim. You end up with a perfectly smooth almost polished edge.
