Would it be strange for me to have 1 credit button for both players on my mame machine? The reason I ask is that I dont have a lot of room left on my control panel and I still need to place the player 1 & 2 buttons along with an exit button. This is my first real machine build and im pretty particular with what I do but this to me seems like it wouldnt be that big a deal, would I be likely to run into any problems running MAME with only 1 button?
Sorry if this is a dumb question!!!!!

Some games are "coin slot specific", though it's really not many (and you can always reconfigure MAME or use a shift button if necessary).
I always say, the best way to get coin buttons off your panel is to use a coin door and/or these pushbuttons on the front of the machine: http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=295 (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=295)

There's a dozen ways to go about this, but I think the easiest solution is to just use smaller buttons. There's a few different kinds at radio shack, and there are 24mm buttons from Sanwa and Seimitsu.
Alternatively you could just use one button and have the other play use a shift function. So player 2 would have to hold press Fire1 + credit in order to get a credit for player 2.
OR you could put your credit buttons on the side of your CP. I've seen that work for some people.

Hmmm i never thought of that, good thinking, might look into that.

I dont know if your CP is overhanging the front of your cab, but if it is, you can put two buttons under there.
Thats what I did to have "hidden" credit buttons. It still has a coin door that works, but these hidden button are like coin cheat buttons that not everyone knows about.

Yeah, I put hidden buttons for TAB, F2, etc under my friend's CP and no one knows they are even there to mess with. Helps me when I have to fix things.

i put my coin buttons on the box below the panel of my showcase cabinet, it makes them easy to get to, but does not clutter up the panel. on my other cabinet, i wired up the coin reject buttons on the coin door to be coin buttons. it makes it feel more authentic becasue you have to reach down and press it, like putting in a coin. i like the authenticity of it, but also prefer the simplicity of having the coin buttons on the front edge of the panel box.

You can simply map MAME for coin... just map 5 6 7 8 to the coin inputs in MAME.

Thanks for all the responses, I decided to redesign my control panel layout and I managed to fit all the required buttons on without too much hassle so its all good. :applaud:
