I bought a pre-built cocktail shell from Ebay (which I'm really impressed with!).
I bought it with a pre-installed "1x LCD monitor bracket", appears to be a square of MDF with the two longest sides having a metal strip on each with a couple of holes in each metal strip.
Basically I was under the impression I could just put a 22" standard LCD monitor in there but I'm unsure how this would screw in? Is this mount designed for a proper arcade monitor or something? I didn't really want to go that route because they seem very expensive for what they are. (at least over here in the UK!).
Here's a pic of one side - the opposite side is exactly the same and the other two opposing sides are just MDF :

Any help appreciated - Knightlore.

Usually any LCD mount will use the vesa mounting holes that are at the back of any monitor or tv. Cannot picture what you ordered but probably fixes to the back of the monitor with metal mounts going into the sides of your cabinet.
-
Hmm thanks, for some reason the picture hasn't shown.
Here's an external link to it if someone doesnt mind downloading it, it wont let me upload to imageshack (filesize too big?) it's 5mb.

Anyway, I think I know what you mean. If someone can just verify that's what I need from the pics - ill order one, cheers.

Hi, I think the aspect ratio is that yes. But my issue is how to mount the monitor with what is already installed. I've done a google and I can't seem to find any wall mounts that have any side attatchments to mount it?
-
Tried to download the file but it says that it is not there. :dunno
-
Odd. Okay I'll get a pic up in the morning, just I tried with imageshack and it wouldn't let me upload, so thought I would use another provider. ??? :banghead:
-
Can't see the pictures, but mounting an lcd in a cocktail is one of the easier jobs you'll have. Just get any appropriately sized piece of wood and screw the monitor to it. You can get a generic flat lcd mount to make it really simple. $10 on ebay.
-
Your image was really really big > 20 meg. Hopefully this helps.

Ahhh thanks Yohan your a star!
Yep this is the image of one side of the mount that was included. So I just get a wall mount off EBay and attach it to this?
-
Aha, I think I was looking at the wrong type of mounts - I think this would do for a 19 inch lcd and then clip into the mount already in the cabinet?

Looks like that mount will work but you can do the same thing with mdf and a few wood cleats for alot cheaper.

Thanks , yep think I'll order one.
Well I would do the wood thing, but I'm really bad with woodwork, in fact anything involving tools to be honest, even the most simple things. :timebomb:
-
i read that link
then went into the main canadian page
it's odd that u would pay twice as much as me?
ie our price is $59.00. us and or canadian
and i alway's thought the euro was 2-x stronger then canadian $$ ?
correct me if i am wrong

Hi, it's £22 (uk). I'm sure I can get it cheaper, was just an examle, not sure what that is in dollars?
-
Ahhh thanks Yohan your a star!
Glad I could help.
That would be around $36 US. Not too bad for an almost drop in solution. I paid over $50 US for 1/4" aluminum bar to make a custom 27" tv mounting frame. I then had to spend a half a day making the thing. $36 and almost no work sure sounds good to me! :)

Actually one thing I have just thought of is that the my control panel is on the side of the cocktail, whereas the monitor mount is setup for a vertical monitor. obviously this means if I was gonna mount the monitor as normal te image would be sideways from the control panel when turned on. Is there any way of getting everything from the front end to mame to auto rotate so that everything is the right way up for the control panel ie at the side?
Hope this makes sense to someone ???
-
Bump, does anyone know what I'm talking about?
I could draw a crude paint diagram - please don't make me do that. :lol
-
hi
i was under the understanding that mame would allow for horz/vert style's
ie stand-up and or cock-tail ?
which in real time should allow for the screen to be mounted in just about any format u want

Cheers, that's what I was thinking - not sure about the loading screen/front end but will look into it.

Im in the UK and ive just bought a prebuilt kit for cheap off ebay.
I will be facing the same situation you have but ive been told i can fit up to a 19". What kit have you got as i wonder if its similar to mine?
We can share this experience together!!!
-
Sounds good :)
This is the one I've got, is it the same as yours?
If so, when I originally enquired about it I was told it was setup for a 22inch lcd. But I bought mine with a glass top/artwork which seems to make the visable hole about 17inches.
-
Hmm photo not displaying in this thread for some reason. Heres a pic in an earlier thread I made about it :

Yeah I think that's mine too. I boughtmine secondhand as the seller wanted an upright. Mines got the glass already too with a bluey packman space invaders cartoon theme.
I've yet to measure the screen size but I'm keeping my eye on a few 19s local lcds.
I've got a 22" and a 15" but need to measure it first
-
Also wanna get the control panels for the end for vertical games and as I got a utrAc trackball may try and fit that somewhere
-
Ahh cool, I'm just keeping mine as is at the moment unless playing vertical games really bugs me, I have a bartop which playing vertical didn't really bother me but will see. Can you buy the vertical control panels or are you building them?
I'm tempted to get an upright from this seller, when I've sorted this. He got a website but for some reason doesn't advertise the uprights on Ebay. There are the same price as the cocktail's, not bad considering they are pre-built!
Mine has the blue artwork too, must be the same/similar - I've just remeasured mine, not sure whether to get a 19 or 17 inch. I didn't want to go 19inch and have the bezel that's sprayed on the glass obstruct the screen.
-
ive just checked mine out and i see what u mean. If i get a 17" it might show the edges of the monitor where as a 19" might be hidden.
From previous experience i dont think the 19" screen will be covered by the sprayed on smoke as the game display doesnt go right up to the corners of the screen.
Im gonna try and get a 18" but they are hard to come by. If not, then a 19" it is.
I was going to make my vertical sides. Im thinking some fancy shelf brackets turned upside and boxed in should look fine.
-
Hey mate, did you get yours in the end?
I'm looking to buy one next week if possible.
-
Yeah I got mine.
I've managed to get a 19" CRT local brand new for £20 that has a screen of 18". I've read and reread about lcds and decided to go for CRT as I was worried bout viewing angles.
I've got a p4 3ghz pc with 160gb hd and a 512mb pcie grafix card to go in it.
I've Also got led buttons and a u360 to go in it. Just need to order one more u360 and I should have just about everything I need.
If the pc isn't enough I might use my athlon 6400 x2 pc that has 4gb ram and get a laptop to use at home.
Should be starting on it soon. The missus is going away for a week soon so may hold out till then if I can!
-
Good luck with it, I've not done much myself - I've added a coin button on the front of the panel got 2x U360's installed and same as you LED buttons (white). I already had a spare gaming pc lying around which I've put inside the cab (needs to be strapped down), it's a bit overkill for most mame (Phenom IIx4 965 quad-core @3.4, 4gb geil ultra, Sapphire 58501gb) games but I'm gonna be running some modern pc games/other systems in it as well, so wasn't worth me selling it/downgrading.
Bargain on the monitor! I've toyed with the idea of CRT but my bartop has one and it just made the thing unbelievably heavy, so I kind of vowed not to go back. I know what you mean with the viewing angles, I'm hoping it wont be an issue but will see how it goes. I could always stump up the extra for an arcade monitor but I don't know what the res would be like on modern games.
-
Actually you might be able to help me out, while I'm here - I posted a thread here :
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=113541.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=113541.0)
I can't seem to work these LED buttons out?! ??? :-[
-
Haven't even taken them out the bag yet so can't help you either at the mo.
The u360s fit ok without routing? I've got the longer shafts anyway.
-
No the U360's wouldn't fit into the pre-routed area, I had to take some more out, this made getting the screws in pretty awkward but managed it in the end. Yup, I went with longer shaft and the harder springs.
