Hello
Just got a Star Wars cabinet yesterday :)
Unfortunately someone decided it was a good idea to JAMMA convert this cabinet, so it is ugly and no SW parts left at all.
Well, I got it really cheap so now the hunt for SW parts begin.
Getting it totally original again is maybe to much to ask... but at least a new flight yoke (from RAM controls) would be a flying start.
Is there any change to still get a vector monitor of any kind? The ZVG option with a MAME PC would be close enough for me.
Anyway, don't expect much action here right now, but sooner or later I will try to restore this beauty as much as possible.

Very nice conditioned cabinet! Too bad about the CP...looks like you've got your work cut-out for you there. Nothin' a little bondo'ing and a new CPO couldn't fix!
Take a perusal of the KLOV sales forum. There have been a couple posts lately, selling ZVG's.
Here's a couple:

Sourcing a working Vector monitor may be a difficult task.
Quarter Arcade has recently posted a sales thread for some colour vector monitors (w/ a bit of burn-in)

Anyways my point is, you might have better luck finding parts on KLOV since they deal with more restorations than BYOAC does. In my books, KLOV = resto's, BYOAC = mame.
Good luck man, hope you can bring this baby back!

Certainly looks like a good starting point. Side art looks remarkably intact. Is it as good on the other side? I'm sure the CP could be fixed with a bit of TLC though you may need a new overlay. I'm afraid I can offer no advice about original Atari parts or specs as I know very little about these cabinets. I can tell you that the yoke from RAM controls is an excellent pice of kit. Yes it's expensive but it really is awesome. Just be careful there... I'm not getting into a discussion on "that" subject here as it's been done to death in other threads. I only mention it in case you are unaware of the history.
Good luck with it anyway!

Thanks for your comments.
I have also realised that KLOV might be a better place for in depth questions regarding restoration of old original arcade hardware. I'll have to register there as well.
And yes, I am fully aware of the RAM controls story, but I really think that now is the best time ever to deal with them (Dan). I also recently discovered that Quartecade has a complete CP with controller for sale. So there are different options.
The downside of this business is the fact that I live in Europe (Sweden to be specific) so almost anything I want will cost me the double in shipping.
But for arcade perfection there is no limit I guess ;) The cabinet was a bargain, so there is room for more costs before I am even close to what at fully working game would cost me.

Heh, I have everything for a Star Wars except the cabinet. I can't find a good cabinet!
-
Well, isn't that ironic... So, who will outbid who? ;)
-
Outbid? Not sure what you mean.
Where do you live? I might have enough cab parts for two Star Wars. No extra monitor, though. I know I have three yokes.
-
I was referring to a situation were both of us was trying to buy the other ones parts to make a complete game.
Since I live in Sweden shipping costs are usually a big obstacle when searching for missing parts. But, that is up to me I guess, to decide if it is worth it or not, to have a working game.
Ebay is a great source and there is also companies like Quartercade, that I buy a lot of stuff from. But as you can understand, it sucks when shipping is more expensive than the actual item :(
-
Yeah, that's a deal killer right there.

Hi there sorry to do the whole necro thread thing. Chad Tower do you still have any SW yokes and parts you might be willing to sell? Please PM me if you do! I'm at the very early stages of a cockpit build
Cheers
