My PC hard drive for my MAME Cab is dead. I have to look at it more tomorrow.
Now, I have a laptop with an i3 Intel chip in it that I was going to sell on Friday. Should I keep it for the MAME cab?
So, are there any benefits to having newer hardware? My PC had trouble with Mortal Kombat 3 and a few other games but for the most part it worked.
What about drivers? I have an iPac and two u360s.
What to do ....?
Thanks,
ragnar.

Sounds like you answered your own question. An i3 should run everything that can run perfect.
ipac and u360s do not need extra drivers.

Laptops usually lack in a good GPU, but that isn't going to make a difference for Mame. Other emulators you may use may rely on a good GPU, though. Emulators for older gaming systems should still be perfectly fine.
For hardware, just make sure you have the physical ports needed, I believe the older ipacs had only the PS/2 ports, and that is not very common to a laptop anymore.

I agreed to sell the laptop ....
Basically, I promised it to a friend before this happened and he actually changed his weekend plans this weekend so he can toy with the laptop.
So I can't back out of it. The laptop is going by-by
Did consider a new desktop just so I can get Windows 7 but it is $300-$400.
I'm busy in the summer. I think I'll save the Mame cab redo till this winter which kinda sucks. If I wait, I can give myself an excuse to get a new desktop. Actually, i wanted to replace the main PC in our home anyway. Probably get two!

you could just replace the harddrive in the old machine, couldn't you?
