This is an idea that I've been flirting with. What if you build a sf layout panel but also love mortal kombat. Honestly playing MK is not that bad on the sf layout but vice versa is awful. So..instead of just straight up holes on the middle 2 buttons you cut it as a slot. This way you can slide the top middle button up and out of the way. Then slide the lower middle button up to the MK block position. I think this can be done and still look clean. I have some ideas to black out the slot so it does show much. As it stands i cant think of another way to re position and tighten without lifted the cp and loosening and re tightening, But it works in my head.Sorry the pic is so crappy. its just an example. picture both button sets as the same. just convertible. Yes i forgot the run button.

Interesting idea, would love to see it in action. Looks great for SF, MK and MK2. This was my solution/compromise for the 6 button layout (no pic lit up, sorry), MK with run, and Neo Geo (it's for a two screen machine, so there are two of these panels). Never thought about a moveable button layout before.

They're a combo of black IL concave buttons and clear translucent ILs. Lit with Paradise's IL-lumination RGBs.

Well, on Mar 9th, I came up with the sliding button idea as well.
I started to design its functionality... but got distracted and didnt finalize it.
After drawing up an entire mechanism, I realized one important thing I had overlooked.
Buttons should be close as possible together. But if you make a slider out of mere steel or wood.. it will not have the strength to hold up to downward pressure, because the button-hole will make the edges too thin.
I then came up with a fix, but have not yet drawn it out. By using a "C" shaped piece of metal (or possible an L ), you can still cut the hole out but still maintain a lot of strength due to the vertical thickness. Yet, it will still be fairly thin, keeping the buttons close together.
To hold the thing in place, I was originally going for a pressure latch seen on some cabinet doors. Strong Neo magnets might be just as good. Use of a small nub to drag the thing externally... or use of a small hole which you then insert and use a 'key' to drag it.
