Now you can download and play "Team Fortress 2" on Steam absolutely free!
And what's better than free? NOTHING! That's what!
Now, go get it and shoot some noobs!
-
Dangit....something I already had for free. Thanks for the heads-up, though.
-
Everything is free :dunno

Cool and I hope they do the same for CS Source.
I'll have to put up a server in honor of such a momentous occasion.

I purchased the game already, which means I get the "Proof of Purchase Hat"! Yay!

Nina Paley's "Copying is not theft" - arrangement by Willbe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw-MFeR8Frw#ws)
Also.. Quake Live is free to play too. And kicks TF's ass anyday!

Thanks I havent seen that a million times.
Perhaps you think stealing and larceny are the same thing?
Everyone is fine with stealing, until someone steals from them.

The whole discussion of piracy is largely moot in this case, even before it was free if you pirated it you couldn't play with everyone else.
-
Free in a way that you need to make an account, and give a Credit Card number in case you click on a in-game buy or click on something else in Steam?
That free is the free I hate Google about spamming all business magazines in the Netherlands. Free ADWORDS.... :blah: Yeah... ASS. If you don't give a CC number, and you don't shut the service before you hit the credit limit, you do pay.

You do not need a credit card to sign up for a free Steam account. You only need to provide one if you purchase anything off of Steam or the game's store*. And no, you can't "accidentally" click on something and be forced to purchase something. I bought something from the store and it pretty much makes you confirm everything.
[*and not even then if you want to use Paypal or those other payment methods they listed I've never heard of]

By the way, TF2 is a fantastic game that i have been playing pretty consistently since it was in beta 4 years ago. I can not recommend it highly enough.
-
TF2 is quite fun but far to many people play it like a regular shooter, TEAM is a key word here. A team of 6 snipers and 3-4 others will not win.. of course those snipers are happy as they stand way back and get 3-4 kills to no deaths while us idots run in as a Heavy or pyro .. or a grunt soilder or demo... TF2 should only assign points (and kills to winning teams).. maybe some TEAMWORK would develop. heheh sorry for rant.. Great GAME! and free rocks..
I must say it does have one downside. STEAM is digital crack.. the daily sales and weekend sales will have you with an empty wallet in no time :(

Crap this thread is making me want to get back into it. Such a beautiful game.

One of the things i like about tf2 is they don't display your deaths to other players, k:d ratios don't really matter. Those types of servers do suck though, usually I play on one of these (http://www.refugeegaming.com/forum/servers.php?sid=30e92585c4ffe08efb2231bb9bac181d) and i haven't had that problem for a while. Finding a good set of people to play with can make then game a lot better.

I have this game on both PC and 360, but I've never tried it because it has no single player. I at least want to try a game out and learn the mechanics of it first before going online.

The best thing Valve did was add an Offline mode to this game. When I first played, I had to jump in and feel stupid for not knowing how to do most anything. It really helps. You can play a tutorial to get used to the controls or play against some bots to get a feel.
They also have a "coaching feature" (which I haven't tried) where a season veteran talks you through the game play and helps you.

Agreed. A good solution to this is to get yourself a headset mike and not be shy talking to others. I will often make comments when my team is like you described (too many of one class) about how we need Medic/Engineer/Scouts/etc. and not eight spies, few of whom are even cloaking. If my team doesn't listen, I either just have fun with it anyhow or move to another server.

Yeah, this thread got me back into it too (though I hardly left - as of this post I have 239 hours into in, more than any other game I ever played). I even put my stats back in my sig in case anyone wants to hit me up on Steam.
Also: saw this interesting little tidbit - TF2 as a side-scroller:

.... and now I am back into it. If anyone needs a semi-competent medic on their friends list, I play under the name Mr. Banana Grabber, add me!
-
Awesome name, but you should of got animation rights.
-
Nice I downloaded it. Got all of it to work but the actual game play. It gets stuck half way on the VAC part and looking for a connection or server. Anyone else have the issue?
of course I am trying it at work and haven't tried it at home. Maybe it is just my connection? or Virus protection or something blocking it? Umm i don' know?
-
firewall blocking the port the game plays on??
-
On free team shooters, Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory has been free for years, and I've been playing it for many. Still play routinely on et.tjw.org server. A great game!
-
Had a great day at work. We were 4 colleague's playing a couple of hours... the server was down ::)
-
Nope no firewall blocking any ports.
Also if the firewall was there i wouldn't be able to get into the Steam server to begin with right?
I can get into the whole entire game but just can't actually play online. the VAC locks up.
Oh well. It isn't that important but free gaming at work and getting paid for it. Umm sounds like being sponsored to play games for a living
