Okay, so as the title says, I want some of your ideas on what to call my machine (the name will be displayed on its marquee).
I want a combination of the words "Arcade" and "Jukebox" (EDIT - or perhaps similar words), maybe a hint of something to do with the internet, in it, as well. The latter due to my FE's internet features, though I'm not entirely sure I want this in the name.
So then, any suggestions?
The best I have come up with is "JukeCade" - which has already been given to a Jukebox programme, by someone, so I can't even say I came up with it.
-
Musicade
Guitarcade
Mame, Rattle & Roll
Game Tunes
Dan's Dangerous Dance Discography
-
OMGWTFARCADEJUKEBOXFTWBBQ
-
Picture a juke box with a cowboy hat and a six-shooter.
Call him "The Juke"
-
If you want my honest opinion, I'd pick a different direction all together. I don't like naming conventions that sound as though they were conceived in a conference room filled with semi-creative-marketing types. The English language is vast, colorful and woefully underutilized. I don't see the need to create a portmanteau birthed from an unholy marriage of generic terms and outdated buzzwords.
Instead, start plugging related words into thesaurus.com and see what you can find. Start actively seeking out cool words. Find an obscure video game reference, etc etc.
In case my post isn't persuasive enough, here are some suggestions based on your original theme:
- iJukeCade
- Arcade 2.0
- JukeCade.net
- iCadeTunes
- WiFiCade
-
JukeCade sounds like JewCade
AudioCade?
Listen & Play?
iPlayGames?
DeathPunch
I got nothin
-
ArcBox
-
I would skip any name containing juke or cade. Just give it a name YOU think is cool.

I agree with this, or pick a class arcade game thats recognizable by everyone. My first arcade was called "Old School" and people recognized it as an arcade cabinet, but had no idea what the game was. People love the Donkey Kong which took its place.
-
+1 on finding a new naming strategy. There's a lot of room to make these sort of things very unique. The name doesn't need to be a product discription. Theme it after something you are interested in.
Otherwise... name it, "Roc 'n Rolaid" :)
-
use an anagram of arcade jukebox, like "Axe Our Bed Jack" :applaud:
-
Music 'n Games
Juke 'n Joysticks
Auditory Reflex

I agree with this. I for one think when people use "Mame" in their marquees it reminds me of the old Batman show... where everything is labelled as it it. Bat-Computer, Shark Repellent [why was that in the helicopter???] etc.
-
P ussy Galore?
-
... Galore?
For a geeky arcade cabinet?
More like...
"Kitty" No More
-
How about "Chick Repellent"?
Actually, here’s an idea I came up with about a year ago. I’d still love to do it, but I’ll throw it out there as I think it’s pretty clever, yet simple.
I’m not that artistic (and I’m at work), so I’ve got to try in words…
If your cab does not require money and if you’re a Led Zeppelin fan, call it ‘No Quarter’. Use the same Led Zep type font, throw in the Zofo symbols on the marquee and for the side art, use the old man on the mountain holding the lantern. One side would be the mirror image to have it fit properly.
You’ve got your music reference, your arcade reference and you can have fun entering high score initials like LED, ZEP, LIN, ROK, ROL, GTR, DRM, BAS, VOX, BLK, DOG, JAM, POT, HI, etc.
-
I suppose if you were a fan of STYX you could then call it...
J O Y S T Y X
You'd have a built-in come on line.
"Want to come to my place and get your hands on my Joystyx?"
-
Maybe an Austin Powers theme; Alotta Fagina? you could do the 60's font, and fembots for sideart.
(I'm not really helping, am I?)
-
My 8 year old daughter suggested 'Digital World' for our new project cab, which I like because it sounds 80s and is generic enough for me to get creative with it.
-
I gathered earlier that you were a fan of Monkey Island, that would always be a cool theme to do.
"The Secret of Jukebox Island"
"Jukebox Threepwood, Mighty Arcade"
or
"That's the second biggest WiFi Enabled Jukebox Arcade I've ever seen!" :P
-
Call it Rippedoff Arcade.
-
How bout the title or a name from your fav 80's movies? I dont think we've had one named 16 candles yet! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
-
Ha Ha, you guys are hilarious. Oh yeah, also, Vigo, you sound awesome! LOL
What's with all the "Chick Repellent" business though. o_O Having a cab can be SEXY! As long as you don't (am I gonna regret saying this ::)), for example, go overboard and have like 50 - unless you live a mansion, or unless you own a collection like this:

lol
I do like some of your serious suggestions, unfortunately nothing has been said that feels 100% right though. You have made me try to think outside of the box however. The best I can come up with ATM is Future Retro, which shortly after creating it, I realised it is the name given to my GameEx theme, lol, I may keep it though. What'd you guys think?
-
Name it Oatmeal.
-
Name it Oatmeal.
Happy Birthday!
-
Just get a generic blue MAME logo for your marquee and blue lightning for your CP
-
"Tardis Cade" or "Tardisarcade"??? Like Tardis in Doctor Who, that it can travel back in time to the Golden Era in 80's????
-
Name it Oatmeal.
Happy Birthday!
YESSS! Someone gets it!

I thought it was Sept 24th?
Either that, or you're the guy everyone called Oatmeal in High School... actually, I think we all still call him Oatmeal.

If that's Atashi in the middle, I would kill to find out where to get one. Well... maybe not kill but I'd do a lot to get my hands on one.

I don't get it myself. I only know of The Oatmeal, a comic site and Oatmeal, a dude I knew.

OMG youse soooowa right MAME marqueed ftw!1!!1!!!!!!
Actually, no. I don't think it's bad having a MAME marquee, but that's what I have ATM actually and I want it changing.
Anyways, hmmm... Future Retro?? Hmmm... maybe.
-
You could do a play on a 1950's Theme of the future
The arcade of the future, today!
-
Well here's what I am working with.
Disclaimer:
For some reason the pic makes it look TINY. o_O Also, I need to mount the speaker to the wall behind it soon - and the speaker has to be external cause it has to be HUGE. >:D Plus, I want to put the amp in a tidier location but I am not sure where to put it yet. Furthermore, I have not finished decorating my house yet so yes, that is a random patch of blue paint, on my wall, that needs painting over. Oh yeah, and soon it'll have lightguns and holsters! Pew Pew! Bang! Yeah!
-
Oh that cab style reminds me of my fav proj in that style... Bubble Gum Betty! Note the lack of juke or cade in the name.

Yeah I've seen that already. A tad too pink for my liking though. :lol
Edit: I've just realised something huge. I should probably get have some art designed for the sides as well. Ideas?
-
I have named my machine DUM DUM DUUUUMM...
"The 91-07"
As you may have noticed the numbers 91 and 07 are in my user name. You see the numbers represent something really significant in my life (no jokes please).
I have pretty much made my mind up on the type of artwork that I want as well and I'm definitely getting the sides done. I'm in the process of getting SNAAKE to design everything for me also!
-

Sorry but I just read the first line and thought.. what the heck... :D
At least you picked a name. Im still thinking about one.

Well what does it mean? Geesh. you pick a cryptic name and we have to drag out of you what it means? If you don't like explaining it, you may not want to put it in big letters on the artwork.
-
Oh ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. I was supposed to say that I don't want to explain it.
Errm yeah sorry - use your imagination! But yeah, no jokes please. (Damn, I'm starting to sound a bit too weird now lol)
I'm just gonna tell everyone who sees it that I just gave it a random name - if they know it's not a commercial product and ask about why I called it that. Also, I think the name sounds all right, even without the connection it has.
-
I assume that they are in memorial for something. If you think that you might get a lot of questions, you could always just create a dedication/memorial plate and put it somewhere on the machine. Of course, you'd have to come up with a new name.
-

oh man, i laughed so loud when i read that. good job :applaud:

Arrgh. It's coming on again!!

Okay guys. The artwork has been designed... care to take a look?
What'd you think? I'm pretty darn pleased with it.
-
I like that blue background. :)

I like it for the most part, but Bomberman and the lady at the bottom with the bricks don't really fit in - they look sort of just pasted on there.
-
Looks good.
What does 91-07 mean?!
-
Is that pronounced "Ninety One Aught Seven"?
If not maybe it should be. Sounds cool. 8)
