Post by: Rice Cube on July 04, 2011, 12:24:20 pm
recently got an ipaq but without the WinIPAQ software. im wondering if the ipaq is pretty much ready to plug in and play. Andy at Ultimarc told me I don't need it so would I have to get a keyboard encoder or somethign? thanks everyone

Yes, it's plug and play.

The IPac is a keyboard encoder. As Hoopz said, it's simply plug and play. It already has the default Mame keys built into it, so if you're using Mame there's no need to change anything.

The IPac is programmable if you wanted to do that, which is where the WiniPac software comes in. But that's assuming you have not got the IPac "VE" edition. That's the "Value Edition" which is a cheaper IPac without the flash memory onboard. Andy started selling those recently I would guess because most of his customers only buy it for Mame so he offered a cheaper version.

In actual fact I think you can still program the VE version, but when you switch off you lose the settings because there's no flash memory. But it can never lose the default Mame settings which are built in.

If you can define your own inputs in the other emulators, you dont need the software.  Regardless, you can download it, right? Easy to get and install when needed.

cool, i didnt know i can download it. andy just replied and said its on the website haha, its funny how many times i just go to the forums for info rather than taking the time to look.

well here's another example, i got my ipaq working the way i want it on player 1, (havent connected player 2 yet) but i am trying to figure out how to escape back to hyperspin from mame. been looking through all the inputs in mame and cant find anything.

also was wondering if there is a way to set my coin door to for free play and accepting quarters? or is it just one or the other. thanks for the help everyone.
