I am currently planning on building my first arcade cabinet that would house my gamecube and my older Wii system. I was originally going to use the X-arcade controller and adapter, but I decided lately, that I wanted to build my own control panel. Is there ay guide or examples of building a control panel or cabinet for a gamecube/ Wii?

What games would you want to play on it?
It would be pretty simple, just build a cab as usual, hack pads for controls, and put the GC/wii somewhere you can easily swap the disks.
The problem you are going to have is a lot of the games use analog controls, so you won't be able to play a lot of things right...

that and using a Wiimote so close to the display and "sensor bar" might be difficult as well.
-
Why Gamecube AND Wii? Wii also plays Gamecube.

I think this is going to come up more often with the WII coming down in price (well, GCs are already dime a dozen, I guess). I'd like to build an Ikaruga bartop using a GC, but I really didn't find much about padhacking a standard GC controller. If you come across any good info, post it here!

I don't know how true this is, but I remember reading that you can make a custom wii bar with the lights much closer together if you want to play closer up. I don't know if it really helps or not, but there was a site (that I cant find right now) that helps you calculate what size your wii sensor bar should be depending on screen size and distance from screen.

Why would you want to play a wii on a cab monitor rather than on the big screen in your living room?

Exactly. I love both, but console gaming and arcade gaming dont mix for me very much. Modern gaming is with a handheld controller on a big tv.. classic gaming is with arcade controls. The only console system I really never played but now want to emulate and play with arcade controls is the Dreamcast.
-
I agree, because the dreamcast has playable versions of blitz and gauntlet legends and other games.
The Xbox 360 makes for a good cab builder, because there are a lot of arcade like games on it

You could use a Dreamcast and Ikaruga, as well.

Would love to get my hands on a Dreamcast, but in my case I have an extra GC + Ikaruga already... love to do a black/white Ikaruga bartop to complement the red/blue Raiden bartop I'm building.... someday....

GC controllers can be hacked.

GC controllers can be hacked.
Yeah, I guess I could work off of the slagcoin diagram.
Just have to get my head together and learn to solder. ;D
-
Yep, you can use that diagram.
You'll need something to get the black conductive paint off. I prefer a dremel and wire wheel with a gentle pressure.
I can also hack those for you, if you like.
-
soldering isn't that hard, this would be a good project to learn off of, nice big solder points, easy to follow diagram.

I would mainly like to play virtual console games I have already downloaded on to my SD card and other arcade compilations for the gamecube or wii. The reason I am using both is because I have two wii's and the older one does not read gamecube discs as well as my old gamecube or my second wii. Also, has anyone ever tried using this adapter at this link http://www.ultimarc.com/console.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/console.html)
Also, thanks for all of the responses and advice.

a wii cabinet would be good for the fighting games it has (like tatsunoko vs capcom), some shmups and platformers it has, as well as the light gun games. im thinking about doing the same with one of the cabs im working on.
if u softmod your wii, you can just put your games on a hard drive and use a usb loader to boot the games. then you wont have to worry about switching discs. and toodles has a controller board called the PiiWii that emulates a classic controller and plugs into a wii remote.
