Title: Neotec 2515C caps?
Post by: novamatt on June 29, 2011, 10:32:53 am
I'm working on a Primal Rage cab with a Neotec 2515c monitor.  It worked pretty well the last time I had it powered up, but that was about 5 years ago, and I'm thinking it'd be a good idea to do some preventative maintenance as long as I've got the cab opened up anyway.  I understand the flyback on these monitors tends to go over time, so I'm planning to replace that and install a cap kit.  Here's the problem: this doesn't seem to be one of the standard cap kits anyone carries, and I don't know enough about these things to make any sense of the schematics in the service manual.  Can someone who understands these things take a look it and help me figure out which capacitors I'll need to replace?

Additionally, if anyone who's familiar with this model knows anything else I should be doing beyond the cap kit and flyback, I'd rather hear about it now than get this thing hooked up and have to pull it out again.  Like I said, there was nothing wrong with it the last time I used it, but it's 17 years old at this point, it hasn't been turned on in 5 years, and this is a convenient opportunity to do whatever needs to be done to refurb the thing.  Thanks!

the only reason you would need to replace all that stuff is because it's been running... since you haven't had it running, there likely won't be anything wrong with it.

it's heat and stress of heating and cooling and that causes components to fail...since you haven't used to for 5 years, i would suspect it will work just as good as it did then. it's not like a loaf of bread, where if it sits it goes bad.

power it up and see how it looks to you... if it looks okay, everything is good. if you have a little wobble or it's dark or something looks funky and doesn't seem right, then get into fixing it.

Awesome, that saves me a lot of work.  Thanks!  I didn't realize the caps drying out was a matter of use - I just thought it was time alone.

Ok, I got the monitor fired up on my new ArcadeVGA 3000, and it looks like it's not as great as I remember. It's dark and blurry, and playing with the adjustment pots doesn't help.  It also won't keep its horizontal hold setting, but I think that's a different issue - it looks like the knob got bashed at some point & I probably need to replace the pot. Soooo... Can someone who understands these things look at the service manual attached to my first post in this thread and help me figure out:

1) What caps do I need to get to do a full cap kit,

and

2) what potentiometers are used on the adjustment knobs?

Thanks!
