Title: Items that you can clear out of MAME folders to "refresh" everything
Post by: markronz on June 27, 2011, 04:03:32 pm
Long story short...   I copied my MAME folder onto a friend's computer.   All the games still load and all of that, but for some games the keypresses are acting strange.   I haven't gone over to his house just yet to nail down a specific description as to what it occurring.  At this point I am just looking for an answer to one question.   Since his PC is different than mine, and we did a direct copy of my MAME folder, what folders can we empty out to ensure that everything loads "cleanly", as if for the first time?   Like, for example, I know that I can clean out the CFG folder to get rid of all the custom CFG files that I've generated.   I would assume all the files in the SAV folder could be deleted as well.  What other folders should I empty out?   I thought someone told me the NVRAM folder, but I can't remember for sure.  Also if there are any others I should empty?

You probably want to delete everything but the rom folder, copy in your mame executable, then run it from a commandline with -cc to generate a new clean config and go from there.

If its a Windows PC, the folders may be set as read-only too.  That happens sometimes when copying folders to a Windows machine.  You may check that too.

Anytime I've ever did a direct copy to a stick drive and dropped it onto a different machine, I never had any problems. In fact, all the settings were back at default values.
