Here is a link to my computer Case in my MAME cabinet.  I have everythign setup to turn on once my PC is turned on.  (have that special surge protector)  I don't seem to have a (keyboard power on option), so I guess my only option is to wire the power button from the case to somewhere else?  Or is there a better option?  I just don't want to have to bend over and around the back of my cabinet to turn this on eveytime.  I would like to mount a switch or button the the front area or the side.

Thoughts?  Ideas?  Suggestions?  Which buttons should/can I use?  How do I wire it?  Etc..
Thanks

Any pushbutton will do.  My power button is an arcade pushbutton button.  Simply attach the current power button wires (found on the motherboard -- it will say pwr sw) to the new button.

So this will work?

Part # 54-0004-20 from www.happcontrols.com ?

And if so...  How do I go about wiring it to my motherboard?  What type of wire?  Can I just cut the current power button connector wires and lengthen them to reach this new button?

That should work right?

Yeah that would be fine.

20-22 gauge or whatever you used to wire your cp will work.

You da MAN!

I bought a prebuilt CP.  So this will be the first wiring I will be doing on my cabinet.  (excluding the power cord wired to my marquee light)

Thanks...

You don't even need to order from Happ.  Any momentary pushbutton from Radio Shack will do... heck, a doorbell button from Home Depot will work!

Yeah but the push button from happs is a cool illuminated one.  Doubt you could get that from RadioShack.

All about the look baby!!!!:)

I just used a red ultimate button from Happ for my PC's power, hacked into the exisiting wiring.

One press and the smartstrip does the rest!

Krynos, Could you post a picture of your power button setup?

And one of full machine.  Would like to see how that looks.
Thanks..

Here is a picture of my setup, although you it is a little difficult to see the details -- it is the same setup as krynos.  The red button turns on the computer and everything else except the tv via the smart strip.

Is the back of your cabinet easily accesible?  Looks like a pain to reach around each time you want to turn the cabinet on...

I know my unit would suck if I had to reach around everytime.  I just am still trying to decide where to install my button.

To turn it on, I have to bend down and press the button.  There is just enough room between the wall and the cab for my hand.  I purposely made it a little difficult to turn on.  You can put your power button wherever you like.

I have done the same thing but shutting down has proved to be a PITA. I set the PC to shutdown when I press that same power button but gamelauncher hangs and I get the "ending program" dialog which kills the experience. Any ideas on a better way to use the power button to do a super fast shutdown?

If it really bothers you, use mamewah instead of gl.  Mamewah does not have that problem.  However, you still will get the windows shutting down dialog boxes ect...
