I picked up my first juke this week, an AMI/Rowe TI-2, and I'm looking for some tips on getting started on a restoration. I've restored lots of video arcade games and done some minor pinball repair, so I believe I can handle this. I think it's been sitting unused in a warehouse for years.

I ordered a new key and manual/parts list from Victory Glass to get started. The front won't close and the back top service panel is locked so I can't get into it yet.
So how should I start a restoration? Start from the power cord and work my way back, cleaning and replacing things that don't work?
Some observations:
1. Right now it powers up, and the carousel spins if I move the rocker switch to scan. When I make a selection, sometimes the carousel spins and the 45 gets pulled. But usually nothing happens. When a record does get pulled, it doesn't get placed exactly on the spindle, it's a little off center.
2. When I power down, there's some prolonged static from the left speaker.
So what's step 2 after new key and manual? This is gonna be cool in the basement!

it's quite common... it's just the excess power from the amp capacitors bleeding off. nothing to worry about.
other than that, it looks pretty good. give it a good clean down with a couple of rags and some warm soapy water. i wouldn't get too hardcore into cleaners and whatnot. these old plastics don't take to chemicals too nicely.
other than that... your right, start at the powercord, check it to see if it's cracked or broken anyplace... being as old as it is, it might be dry rotted and in need of replacing.
check your fuses, check the plugs... unplug them and plug them back in again a few times...it's often enough to clean them to get a good solid connection again. new bulbs etc.

does it get on the spindle or is it hanging up on it? if it gets on the spindle i wouldn't worry too much about it... but if it's hanging up on it and causing a jam, it will need some tweaking. the "bow arm" (that picks up the record) might be off a little or wore out. i havent worked on an LP machine for years, but the CD mechanisms are nearly the same.
