The speakers should be ok as long as they're not close enough to the monitor tube to cause pix distortion.
Amp should work as long as it doesn't pull too much current off the 12v line of the computer's psu. Id actually recommend a seperate 12v supply for that.
-
okay only problem is doesnt the psu have to be connected to a mobo in order to start up?
-
Google is your friend to find out how to use a PSU without a motherboard. E.g. http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/196/1 (http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/196/1)
Lots of others too searching for "how to allow psu to work without mobo"

I wouldn't use a PC supply, 'cause it likely won't start up without a load on the 5v output. I was thinking a 5a or so switching supply like this:

-
running a PSU with no load on the 5v rail tends to make the other rails low.
12v rail will only be maybe 10 or 11 volts... under load it will fluctuate ALL over the place 9 volts, 14 volts up down ... eventually sideways.

i could use this instead of the psu from a computer?
-
if anyone could give a quick reply so i can get my purchases set.. would this work to power the speakers?
(it would be alot easier than hacking a psu)

You can always power your amp from a seperate source that is switched off of a 12volt relay that gets fired off of your PCs psu.
So then when your computer is powered up, the relay is powered and turning on your power feed for the amp.
-
Save those for your car, and spend $20 (or less) on some decent PC speakers that are plug and play.
-
problem is i need the speakers because its a vewlix clone
-
That will work. I used the same setup for my cab... Sony auto speakers:

and a Pyle Amp (attached).
I know that it's overkill... and I probably spent too much... but the cabinet sounds pretty darn good.
I was concerned about the shielding... but I haven't seen any problems at all having the speakers mounted just over the CRT.
-
nice paul exactly what ive been looking for.
how did you hook the amp up to the computer what connector did you use?
-
Actually...

If you scroll down on this page... I wired the speakers to a terminal block... and used some "patch cords" that I made to wire from the terminal block to the outputs on the amp.
The input to the amp comes from another cable... with a mini-plug on one end (for the sound card) and RCA plugs on the other end (for the input to the amp).

to complicated for me, i have no wiring expierence.. lol need to keep it as simple as possible ;)
