Wow, I hate posting a question like this, but I’m running a little short on my trial period…
My MAME cab recently lost its hard drive and I’ve built it up again from scratch. I’m looking into Maximus Arcade as a Front End. I like most of what I’ve seen, but I can’t quite figure this out; when I’m in a game, I want to exit the game and go back to the game selection menu. When I press my 1P and 2P Start buttons simultaneously, it closes the game as I’m expecting, but it doesn’t quite get me back to the menu. Instead, I’m shown a blank screen.
From here, I can press Ctrl+Alt+Del and it basically flushes through and then the game selection screen appears (along with Task Manager, of course).
Do I have something configured wrong? How can I exit the game and (quickly) display the game selection menu?

I would try holding your P1+P2 start buttons for about 3 seconds or so. I remember having to do this for one of my button combinations. Hope this helps.

make sure scroll lock and num lock are off when you exit the game and you shouldnt have an issue
-
Thanks for the ideas guys. Unfortunately, neither solved my issue.
-
the only time mine does this is if i exit the game using escape. I have mine set so holding start for 5 seconds exits the game and if i exit that way i never have any problems.

When i was working with MA, i had to press P1 + P2 twice in some circumstances to get back to the lists

Look here at the docs. What do you have in the "Quit Executable" line?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure what I have in "Quit Executable", but I know that I came across that field before and intuitively assumed that the executable meant the entire front end, not to just exit the currently loaded game. I'd almost bet money that the docs didn't describe it as otherwise.
At this point, I think I'm just going to go with HyperSpin. It looks good, and the interface seems a bit more intuitive to me....especially being familiar with HyperPin.

The quit frontend is on the next page. That setting is for quitting the game you're playing I believe.

Use the end key to exit the game as spec'd by ma. If you use ESC or a combination of keys for ESC it just gets lost.

I've noticed escape causing problems too. I think what happens is that when you use escape to exit, then the escape send messages to maximus and the emulator to close and it can get lost for one of them. If you assign it to something like 'end', then maximus can force the close of the emulator and then deal with it properly without it tryign to terminate itself. I may be wrong, but this is my reasoning as to why escape seems to have problems.

I use 'P' to exit the game - specifying a delay of 2 seconds
So when I tap P the game pauses, tap again to unpause.
Hold P to quit.
Works well for me and gives me 2 useful functions for 1 button on my CP, this is the only admin button my CP.
