Not a problem. All we need are some good drillers and a couple of nukes... I figure the best place to look would be some independant rig somewhere.
Fly them up there in a shuttle and they can blow it apart.
Gosh - sounds like a good movie script :p

You let the media smack you around like that?!
"It's based on 51 observations over a period of just over six days."
Wow, fate of world decided in 6 days, cool.

Regardless, our goverment has a solution for such things.
Although they would not like you to know about it, powerful space capable lasers are still in place, left over from the star wars era. They can zap and large asteriods apart like a puny kidney stone. :)

Yes, that's the problem with news media: all the hype, Hype, HYPE!!!
The asteroid report was released so the thousands of professional and amateur star watchers could help out validate the crash. After the report was released, those extra helpers have checked it out, and the new observations have dropped the chances astronomically ( ;D ) to pretty much zero. In a couple days, I bet it will be reported as zero.
Of course, that news not as "good material" for the media to hype, so you won't hear as much about it. >:( Of course, rumor mills are a lot like the media (and vice versa) so newsgroups, forums, etc probably won't spend it either. :-\
-
The odds of that asteroid hitting us are 900,000 to 1 -- which is still better odds than the lottery. That number will increase the closer it gets. I got that infro from Tech TV so if you disagree, yell at them.

Sounds like someone's grant money is running out. :P

It's a 1 on the Torino scale (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/3200019.stm) soon to become a zero.
Your arcade cabinets are probably safe.

You know, we're the only species that gets panic attacks. We love to worry ourselves to death based on slivers of information. Take me, I'm a raging hypochondriac: every upset stomach is a heart attack, every headache is a tumor. "It's not a TUMOR!" Same goes for the current climate in the wake of 9/11. Every plane crash is now a terrorist attack. And every rock that comes within a parsec of earth is a friggin global catastrophe!
Kill your television! Play more MAME! ;D

Hmm... good idea, but I need to buy a TV to cab-a-fy first. ;D
And, yes, I pre-ordered a couple TV lightguns even though I don't have a tv. :o I'll get a tv when I get my TV guns, scheduled to be delayed again sometime this month. :P ::) (But I hope not.)

I'm the opposite - I can be dying, and I'll just merrily continue on thinking nothing is wrong ("It's just a flesh wound!"). I have no idea which one of us will actually die first though...
