Title: Makvision 2929D Focus and Gaussing
Post by: newmanfamilyvlogs on June 15, 2011, 06:16:12 am
I've got a new Makvision 2929D purchased from Happs. I've been running it a few months now in my mame cabinet.

I've noticed recently after it's warmed up for 10-20 minutes the focus seems to drift out ever so slightly. Is there any reason not to adjust the focus pot on the flyback to compensate for this?

Secondly, the monitor has not been moved during this time, and nothing new has been introduced in proximity to it, but a large region of discolor has been appearing (and sometimes fading) on the right side of the screen after being warmed up. Internal degaussing does not seem to clear it. What can cause this? Should an external degausser be used?

If it were me I'd adjust the focus after its warmed for a while. It *shouldn't* drift like that, but if it is....adjust it for correct focus after the warming period.

You need to manually degauss the tube/frame if you have color splotches. Make sure you don't have the monitor near a strong magnetic field such as speakers. And, the speakers in your cabinet can cause this pix distortion if they have large magnets. This is a no-no....'specially if they are in close proximity to the monitor.

The speakers are shielded computer speakers and are almost 2 feet away with several layers of wood and an aluminum sheet between them, so I'm pretty sure it's not them.

I suppose it's time to track down an external degausser.

Wood and aluminum will not act as magnetic shields. But if they're shielded (bucking magnets) then you should be ok. Degauss manually and that should take care of it.
