the more i read about this the more i get confused...
at the mo i have a crt running at 1024 x 768 via svideo. windows looks crap but i'm gonna shell the frontend away... im happy with how the front end a games look... i also run street fighter 4....
my prob is that i want the tv to auto switch to av... at the mo i have to press av on the tv.. i've made a vga to scart cable..... followed this:
it does switch to av on its own...... but i can't read a thing, it just scrolls really fast on the screen...... i'd like to add im using a 150ohm not a 100 resistor like in the diagram.... i was told by the "man in the shop" it should do the same thing.
even the windows boot logo is unreadable.... i understand i need softkhz or something..... i've even confused my self more just writing this,,,,,,, plz help..
if i need a arcadevga i'll buy one..... does that need softkhz also?? heres some vids also;

Try a lower resolution. My arcade monitors do the same thing when I try to send them a resolution higher than they can handle. Don't know what resolution your monitor can run though...

isn't the bios and win boot screen 640 by xxx ?
-
For a standard television you need 640x480 INTERLACED (15kHz scanrate), no higher, and it can't be progressive. A PC will never output this without special configuration as most PC monitors are incapable of it. The lowest a normal PC monitor can go is 640x480 PROGRESSIVE (31kHz scanrate). Soft15khz is one way to do it, but your bootup screens still won't work. The ArcadeVGA is another option, and it should make your bootup screens work, if you care.

that answers that then... thx for the info...... might just go svideo to scart (so iit will av auto switch... thx for the info guys.

hm .. u are confused my dear .. get a quality brand 50/60 hertz tv , solder the cable , purchase a known well working graphic card like radeon 9200 / 9250 , install soft 15 k and ure done witch a chance of 9x % . why go the s-video route when u can have rgb inputs instead ?
auto av on : 12 volt on pin 8 + start with av in osd should do the trick . some other tvs remember the last signal input / channel . only a few have to be set manually to av via remote .

ure spending hundereds of bucks on this nice cabinet and go with composite video in , the poorest picture quality i can think of .
why not fix the soft 15 k issue with ure mamescart cable ? if ure located in euroland u shouldnt have a problem purchasing a nice tv set with working scart rgb in . 2 weeks ago i bought 10 tv sets with 20 inch toshiba tubes for replacing burned out arcade screens in some small universal cabinets. they may be 10+x years old , but among the finest in crt picture quality i have seen . the seller got 80 or 100 of them out of a hospital or hotel crt / lcd replacement and asked for 9 euro each . lets say there is no excuse in using composite , antenna or svideo input for arcade purpose , unless ure a newworlder.

yeah i'm kinda new to crts.... so im gonna give it another go...... this is just temp so i can setup the cab..... the tv is a "LG" or "samsung" tube iirc ... cant remember which....
i really need my cab booting clean...eg i want the bios/post screen to be clear also... but i also play stret fighter 4 on the cab..... not sure how this will look at lower screen res.....
thx for your replies... i am taking it all in. i promise!

apfelanni i took your advice on not using the s-video output..... im now gonna use a arcade vga (i have just had one posted to me)....just need to find a wiring diagram for use with the arcade vga 3000 and a scrat tv.....
-
The wiring diagram is in the first post of this thread. You plug the VGA cable end into the AVGA and the SCART end into your TV.
More info here as well: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=77370.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=77370.0)
You guys in Europe are so lucky to have TVs with real RGB inputs for practically free all over the place.
