Title: x-arcade / spinner question
Post by: shawno on June 13, 2011, 08:22:35 pm
Hey all,

I built a mame cabinet about a year ago with an x-arcade dual joystick, great stuff.  However, I miss being able to play some of the games that were meant to be used with a spinner control (arkanoid, robotron, etc...).  Now having an x-arcade unit, you have already determined I am lazy, guilty as charged, so am wondering if there is is a quick and easy spinner that I can add to my unit, perhaps another peripheral that just plugs into a USB port?  Any recommendations?  Thanks.

Sure, you can easily add a USB Ultimarc or GGG spinner by just drilling one hole.  Just be careful that you have enough room under the hole.  The Xarcade has several buttons on the back face that could interfere with an added spinner.

Those look perfect, thanks for the info.  Is there any additional configuration required in mame and/or my front end (mala), or do you just plug it in a USB port like the x-arcade and it works?

Pretty much plug it in and it works.  If anything, you might have to set your Mame inputs up under the tab menu.

I bought the TurboTwist 2 and replaced one of the buttons on my X-Arcade trackball unit (which is no longer offered).  Installation was very easy. I just had to cut a small hole for the wire so I have two wires coming out of the back. It works great even with the 5" mini-wheel.
