Title: Non-Mame vertical games?
Post by: popsicle on May 25, 2011, 10:13:54 pm
Does anyone have any suggestions for non-MAME emulated or (cocktail cab friendly) pc games that run in full screen vertical orientation?

All I can think of is future pinball, but I haven't tried it yet.

Don't know how it's displayed because I haven't been able to get it to work :banghead:, but MESS emulates the Vectrex console.

I've been looking for something like this for a while with no luck.

Does MESS have a 'cocktail' video mode like the current MAME does?  Sky's the limit on horizontal 2 player simultaneous games of any system MESS offers if this is so.

I don't know about plain MESS but MAMEplus has that cocktail mode for the consoles that it supports.

There are a handful of PS2-era shooter games that can run in what they called "TATE" mode, because "rotated" wasn't snazzy enough I guess. They are mostly duplicates of arcade games but some of them have different modes.

There was an Apple II version of Galaxy Wars that rotated the monitor, but again it's just an arcade port.

Some of the Touhou shooters can run in vertical mode if you use a patch.

From my recollection, Raiden II and III have vertical modes in them.
