I fried my good computer (don't ask) :banghead: that I was using in my cabinet. Until I can afford a new one, I want to use an old computer I have on hand. It's a 900mhtz. I'm using mala and mame v0.126 but it's super slow. I will continue to use mala. I also have full rom sets for mame v0.36 and v0.84. Which one do you think I should use? I know neither of them will support the high scores.dat. Will either of them support the command line -no nag? Do I need to compile? Any suggestions?
Thanks

I suggest you shell out 100 bucks and get a core 2 or better.

What style of games are you playing? If it's older vertical style games, the 900mhz will be fine if you run a much older version of Mame. If it's games from the 90's - you'll want a better machine.

.84

80's classics. Anyone know if the command line -no nag will work on 0.84?

I still have one or two 900MHz laying around for kicks, but people are throwing out P4's all the time- I found 5 or 6 going in the trash or at the curb over the last year. But anything <V.099 should work ok. You have to use win98 or a stripped down xp for the best results too.

I was running v.090 on a p4 @ 900mhz.
It ran all of the classics from the 80's great and I also ran the fighters and Neo Geos without issue. The audio was a little choppy on Golden Tee but it played well enough.
