As an HTML5 web game. Plays really well too, as long as you don't use IE9 (frame rate suffers):
Use Chrome or Firefox 4:

Wow, that plays very well!
I prefer the touch controls, though. I like to zoom out.

No it doesn't.... or at least it doesn't for me.... Running IE9 and it's silky smooth. Too many plugin's perhaps?
Actually there's a pc version anyway so it shouldn't matter. Downloaded it from amazon's unbox (or whatever) service a few months ago for free. I'm not sure if they still have that deal though.

And buy some stuffed puppets to play it offline with wooden blocks too :banghead:

Angry birds make me angry
And HTML 5 sucks as it is no HTML but just a friggin lot of Javascript!

So what is really up with angry birds? This is really not a special game....
-
For $0.99 it's very fun and they give you *a lot* of content and free updates. I like it.
-
Well, I'm not saying the game is bad, or people are duped into liking it or anything like that. I just don't get why people are, as above, setting up giant sale games of angry birds and there are things like this:
Angry Birds board game from Mattel hands on (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzFUV4yb4RE#ws)
Playable Angry Birds birthday cake (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hwVRzaQNkA#ws)
Angry Birds Rio Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7gIpfrQdAI#ws)
Angry Birds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz0EtEDZVqw#ws)
I guess I just don't see it as being the caliber game that requires this much attention. It all seems a bit...overrated.

Anyone can play, but you really have to be good to three star every stage. I don't move past a stage unless I three star it. It's very addicting, and often frustrating.
-
It's frustrating primarily because it's crappy. You can't get good at it. For example, after finally three-staring a game if you replay the stage immediately you will likely one-star it. It's just trial and error, doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over. And even when you know exactly what needs to be done it's still just trial and error until you happen to draw the sling-shot back to precisely the right pixel, a feat that you won't be able to reproduce except by more over and over and over trial and error, aka luck.
And that's how bad it is with the sound turned off. With volume you are treated to bombarded with equally repetitive and even more obnoxious sound effects.
It seems that lots of people like it, but I guess millions of people like American cheese too

Actually, once I run out of new levels to play, I go back and work on increasing my score on each. I've "re-three'd" most of them.

Often you perfectly know how you can get 3 stars, but your thick finger and lack of marquees to remember previous shots makes it a time consuming waste of time to wait till you are lucky that multitouch chose the right starting-pixel for your shot. The toughness of the game is in the inaccuracy of controls. Just like Wii games are often annoying.
Guess the web-version will be too easy now. Mice are pixel-accurate and you can load an ad-on to keep your mouse clicks visible. If they are smart and want to stretch your play time, they should include a wiggle algorithm.

Trust me, there are incredibly bad games out there that fit this description. Angry Birds isn't really one of them.
For example... My son discovered a racing game I made the mistake of downloading a few months ago. The physics are so incredibly loose (Havok loose) that the truck completely explodes at the slightest knock to the roof "zone" but is able to go vertically straight into the air and land on all four tires. Tilting the screen one way or the other "tweaks" the weight of the vehicle so it tilts forward or backwards as needed. The levels look like they're a combination of Caverns of Mars and Little Big Planet with a grand total of four... no three... textures to choose from and a rendering quality more suited to 8 bit consoles. Some levels require dozens of tries because the truck caught an invisible corner and is sent flying six blocks. It's maddeningly frustrating when there's no indication as to why the truck went flying in that direction anyways.
My son thinks this game is the greatest. :banghead:
Given a choice, I would much rather he plays Angry Birds than that steaming pile of crap.

Seriously? The sound effects are almost the sole reason I like the game. Cute little snorting sounds from the pigs, who also grumble because they are obviously grumpy, panicked birds screeching through the air. Classic!
I think a lot of the complaints about the game come from "old schoolers" that are too focused on getting 100% completion than actually playing the game. Yeah the star system is essentially broken, but why would you care if you get three stars or not? Myself I go on to the next puzzle as soon as I finsh a board and I still have a metric tons of puzzles ahead of me. There is no real reward or point to getting three stars, aside from one or two bonus levels and let me tell you... the bonus levels are crap and not worth unlocking.
AB isn't a game to master, it's a game to play... and that's it. It's easily the best flash game I've ever played and showcases what the platform can really do when somebody talented gets ahold of it.
I will say this.... the game plays like crap on a phone/ipad. It's a far superior game on a pc where you have the precise control of a mouse.

I like to challenge myself to do more than the minimum. Though the game says I can move on once I've one-starred a level, my own rules state that I can't go to the next level unless I get three stars.

Then you have OCD issues. Not the game's fault. Do you re-start Galaga every time you don't get perfect in Challenge Mode?

Then you have OCD issues.
Very much so. Always have.

It's weird to watch you dudes argue so much over a game that costs a freaking dollar.
To me, it's a good combination of luck and skill... sometimes you get really lucky, sometimes you feel like you got screwed, but a good chunk of the time you're ultimately responsible for how that shot went. To me, that makes a pretty good game and it's a lot like how sometimes that ball just happens to bounce into that saucer or that bullet glitched through your ship in Galaga.
I don't sit down and play it for hours, but it's great for a minute or two in the waiting room.
+1
