I found this cable in my Killer Instinct cabinet. It looks like a ground cable but it is silver.

It comes up from underneath the coin counter. Two thirds up the cable, it is clipped to the cabinet just underneath the monitor, suggesting it should go up to the top section of the cabinet towards the monitor etc.

grounding. connect it to the monitor frame if there is no ground wire already attached

Let me look in mine to double check, but that looks like the control surface ground cable.

Yes, I believe thats a ground wire that hooks up the the control panel. I believe theres a threaded post sticking up on the CP where you would nut it on. The nut probably vibrated loose and fell off.
Grounding the CP was done on the newer games, because they are much more sensitive to electrostatic damages. Static electricity could travel down the control wires and into the PCB, if it were not grounded very well.

How many KI cabs do you own X?
Anyway, yeah thats the grounding strap that goes to the control panel, its the same in both KI1 and KI2 cabs. goes from the CP, down the front, stapled to the front and bottom and grounded to a nut near the back door.

Sadly none. I used to manage an arcade for 3yrs... which encompassed fixing the 42 games. KI being one of them. (and one of my personal favorites :) )

I have seen a couple of KI1s come up here in SoCal at (fairly) reasonable prices. You should pick yourself up one. That is the dedicated that gets the most use at our shop.
