Hi all,
I'm working on a mini arcade project, it's a tribute to Gauntlet. The dimensions are different to the original cab so I've had to rework the side art. I'm an Illustrator novice, but here's my design. I'm quite happy with it, but if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on how to improve it please let me know!

I like it - with a caveat. Need to get a bit bigger res picture up here to really evaluate.
Based on what I can see from this pic
- Where the girl is, I would have the girl 'over' the blue 'magic aura' stuff.
- Some of the black around characters doesn't match their outline/profile (barbarian's face for instance) - I would have them map a bit better to the colored portion/outlines. Will look 'cleaner'.
- You might want to mirror/flip the elf so he's facing 'the enemy' as well. Looks like he's just off on his own now. :)
Overall, nice job! :)

Hah nothing gets past you Necro.
Totally agree with the black bits, I'll try to tidy them up a bit more.
The Elf faces right on the original artwork. I flipped him over because when he faces right on my more confined cabinet dimensions the characters appear very bunched up. So I pointed him left and put a fireball in. Perhaps another skull on the left would make it look less "Leeroy Jenkins". :)

OK here's another revision taking your points on board, any thoughts?
The colours have changed a little as I only have a bitmap of the marquee, so I've changed the colours of the side to match it.

Hrm...I took a look at the original art and I'm curious - if you just shrink things down does it actually fit onto that space? It looks like it should...that might work better with just more white space... The relative dimensions don't seem THAT far off each other.
For what you have there, I'd move the elf up and to the left, then shrink him some.

Unfourtunately it's not quite that simple, at least not with my skillset. Using the original dimensions just results in a crammed mess because the width is that much narrower than the original.
The trouble with moving the elf up any more than he already is, is that he has now legs! and I'm not skilled enough to draw him any :(
I've printed the artwork off on paper and stuck it roughly on the cabinet, I'm pretty happy with how it's looking now, your last tips finished it off nicely.
If you can think of a way to give my elf legs easily, I'm all ears!

First - I'm super critical of this kind of stuff. My CPO is basically lines and it took me awhile to create. It's your cab and if you like the art, that's all there is.
If you want, I could take a quick stab at some shifts and potentially hiding things. (Zip the illustrator file, then attach to your post). ;)

Thanks for the offer Necro. The Illustrator file is a mess of layers on account of the source file I had to work with. I am stuck in a hotel all this coming weekend so I'll have a crack at cleaning it up then. The CP is now coming along nicely, that's much cleaner to work with.
