Hello,
Short story,
Stepfather introduced me to videogames...
He has been diagnosed with ALS (slowly being paralyzed)
Built him two configurable joysticks so he could still play. (Right stick wired to dip switches so it could be mapped to any 4 actions)
This inspired me to build my own cabinet from a crate made of 1.25" ply.
Made it too big, and didn't have enough money to buy screen big enough to fill it. Also notice pinball buttons 3 and a half feet apart!
Made control panel (8 buttons per. I wanted flexibility.)
Wiring jukebox buttons to go on panel under screen in the next couple days.
I think I would have done a lot of things differently if I hadn't over planned, under thought and actually had the components I had hoped for, but oh well, my friends, family and I still like it. :) And I can always switch out the screen later for a bigger one.

Welcome. Good work helping your dad out.
You've still got 10 fingers right? Take the experience and your controls/display and make it into what you want. If you're not happy with the width it looks like it wouldn't be too hard to re-section it to the size you like. New front kick, trim down your monitor board or bezel and you're set.
