Title: Xbox 360/DC/VGA Jamma interface
Post by: Franco B on May 16, 2011, 07:37:37 am
I finished making this recently and I thought I would post a couple of pics.

Its basically a project box with two PS360s and a Ultracade Video Convertor (UVC) in. Eventually it will also house two of Akishops Dreams PCBs (if, and) when they are released.

One end has two USB pass thoughs to connect the interface to the 360 with USB A>B cables, it has two DC cable ends mounted in it which will then connect to the DC with DC extension cables and It also has a VGA port to connect the 360 or DC to it.

The other end has the Jamma edge protruding and it also has a 10 pin header which acts as a kick harness connector and it also provides a 12v source.

Once I have the Dreams PCBs I am going to mount them so that the VMUs can be slotted in this end, either side of the  header.

Picture 'under the hood':

The cable to the right has a 8 pin AMP UP connector which connects it to the kick harness of my Sega New Astro City. The two pin connector is wired for 12v which them plugs into a female connector in the NAC which then powers the relays mounted in the chassis and sets it to 24kHz.

I also need to make another cable to attach the kick header to the kick header of the Namco Jamma>JVS adapter in my Naomi.

Pic in my NAC:

That's about it really. HUGE thanks to emphatic for doing the graphics for me

Unreal work you have there... so pro!  Um... you planning on making those available upon completion, or is this a personal project?

Thanks :)

I don't have any plans to make any more, as with most things it took about 10x longer than expected  :dizzy:

I can give links to any parts I used if it helps though. Let me know and I will post them.

That would be great, sir.  It would be a huge help to a noob like me, lol.

I picked the project box up from ebay. The product code is TEK2 but I'm not having much luck finding its elsewhere, the seller does have some more for sale [here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Electronic-project-boxes-ABS-plastic-Type-TEK2-/390260870009?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5add5c4b79)] though.

The PS360's were from http://www.akihabarashop.jp/ (http://www.akihabarashop.jp/) I think the original version I used is sold out now but they are making a PS360+ which is due to be released soon.

The UVC was from ebay, as shown [here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ultracade-VGA-CGA-EGA-video-converter-MAME-SALE-/380336423930?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588dd143fa)].

You may or may not need a video downscaler depending on what monitor you are using. I have a Nanao MS9 in my NAC which is a 15/24kHz monitor. AFAIK I know the UVC is the only converter that downscales 31kHz to 24kHz (as well as the option of 15kHz) which is the main reason I chose it, along with it being regarded as one of the best.

When I use the interface with my Naomi I don't use the video converter as my Naomi has a Sanwa PFX Tri-sync monitor that can display 31kHz sources.

The USB passthoughs are manufactured by Neutrik. If you google 'Neutrik USB' you should be able to find a suitable seller.

I just used some old DC pads for the DC connectors. I used some old USB cables and soldered them to the PS360 USB breakout cable.

You should be able to get a Jamma fingerboard from quite a few places. I got mine from [arcadeshop.de (http://www.arcadeshop.de/product_info.php?item_number=308&products_id=308&language=en)]

The .100" header, pins and other plugs were from [Swallow Amusements (http://www.coin.demon.co.uk/conectrs.htm#0.156)]

I think that's pretty much it really. The only other thing I needed was some low profile PCB standoffs to screw the PCBs to. Normal PCB feet would make the PCBs sit too high so I just bonded some M3 nuts to some 8mm magnets and then bonded them to the base of the enclosure.

Finally got round to making another kick harness for it so I can use it in my Naomi too :)

I love this build! Would you ever consider taking commissions to build similiar one?
