I've lurked here a long time without ever posting a cab I have worked on. I did not take pics as I was building this but I thought I'd post a few pics of the cabinet almost finished.
This was an Asteroids Deluxe Cabaret that I tried very hard to get working as an AD but I just couldn't do it. It got too involved and I already have a complete, working AD upright, so I decided to convert this. Before the purist start slamming me, feel free to pay the $100's and months of time to get an AD PCB repaired and fully functional, as well as the cabaret Atari PS which just became impossible for me. Some cabinets must be converted/sold/traded so that others may survive.
When I got this cabinet, it was real rough. I bondo'd at least 3 times, sanded in between and painted/sanded 4 coats of Rustoleum Satin Black with a foam roller. Completely took the coin door apart and refinished and painted several coats of Rustoleum Hammertone Black (this stuff takes several coats to get that really nice finish). Bondo'd, drilled and made a new CPO for the control panel. Created a custom, illumiated 12v coin/menu button, installed a new 8 way happ and 2 new led pushbuttons. This is all going to a 13" TV that I kept trolling for at Goodwill and finally found the right one. I decided to hack the sound output of the TV as the sound amp and it works great! Only thing is that the auto power off takes down the video output after about 6 minutes if the unit is not touched, I am still trying to figure a way around that. If anyone here has an idea about that please let me know. The marquee and back door will be done very soon. Here's goes....

What did you do with the original parts?
-
I have all the original parts, including the very clean 13" B&W vector monitor and an untested but complete AD PCB. Eventually, I may end up selling all the parts, but I am not a "flipper", I may hang onto everything a long time or until the right trade comes along. The cabaret PS is different than the UR AD PS and it drove me nuts, so I went this route.
