Hey question. I just recently came into a Mortal Kombat cabinet. One of the boards is bad on it(will research what is broke on it later.) What I want to know is this, If I get a PC with Arcade VGA 3000 and a J-Pac, Could I plug in the Jama connector to the j-Pac and the arcade 3000 as well, and run with it, or do I Have to do some hacks? I really don't want to "Destroy" this just to be able to play it for now.
thanks. :-\

Hey. From what I know, yes, that's all you need. I have an MK2 cabinet with a Playstation 2 hooked up right to the JPac. The Jamma harnes flows through to everything properly.

The vast majority of arcade games used a low resolution (15KHz) arcade monitor.
I'm not sure, but I thought that Mortal Kombat was one of the games that used a medium resolution (25KHz) arcade monitor.
If that's the case, you might want to see if you can change a jumper on the monitor to put it in low res (15KHz) mode. As far as I know, most medium res monitors have this jumper.

Non 15Khz Arcade Monitors
There are three other types of arcade monitors besides 15Khz fixed frequency:
25 Khz monitors. If you have a choice, don't go for one of these. They cannot display any of the early games at native resolutions as the scan rate is too high. Only a few games used these monitors and only these few games can be displayed 100% accurately on them. Advanced MAME will be needed for these monitors.
VGA arcade monitors. Avoid these if you can. These give all the disadvantages of using a PC VGA monitor and none of the advantages. Only later games will be able to be displayed at native resolution. Almost all games will need hardware stretching.
Full-Range 15Khz - 31Khz multi-scan arcade monitors. For example the D9200. Very Nice! Expensive but can display ANY game at it's native resolution. These can be used with an ArcadeVGA card to display 15Khz and 31Khz resolutions, using a special installable utility for the card. Bear in mind that if you have one of these monitors, using it with an ordinary VGA card will only run it at 31Khz (unless you use Advanced MAME) so you will not be taking advantage of it's full potential and ability to display native arcade resolutions as well as Windows VGA resolutions.

well i guess im screwed  I just looked and there is no switch. :banghead: it is a Wells Gardner 25K7197 monitor. even if it is 25hz, couldnt I still use it. I mean it would still be better than a Tv or a VGA monitor right???

I saw this link on here where sman6452 was doing the same thing I am trying to do, but the thread ends in 2008 so I don't now what became of it.

If you check the caps and the wiring and maybe you'll have a GREAT WORKING Mortal Kombat ][ cab :)

not sure if this matters or not. I did a test today. I have a 60n1 card I plugged it into the JAMMA connector and fired it up.. The monitor went crazy..(Kinda the way it does when you put a resolution on a PC monitor and its not designed to do IE, Run 1024x768 on a 640x480 monitor) Anyway I checked the card it was set for 15khz

Although MK used 15Khz monitors the video settings were rather weird. You may need to adjust the V Hold control and possibly the other controls when moving to a more standard resolution.

That got it.. was able to stop the "Scroll" and stabilize it although now my monitor has the shakes :banghead: However from what I have read on here its a bad solder joint and WG is notorious for having those. My cousin works on TVs he said he could have it fixed in about 15 minutes.. now the pain is pulling the monitor out.
