Ok, so according to some random blog post I read, if you say each letter (that has a star) on the cover of super mario galaxy it spells something. It does, but is this a hoax? Even the Amazon.com cover still works. I guess some graphics artist was being mischievous.

U R MR GAY! This is kinda old, and I guess they got enough complaints about it, because it was changed for SMG2.
-
Checking my own copy (bought when it was released)...
-
I dont get it.
-
Yup, confirmed.
@Malenko: Add up each letter in the title with a sparkly star on it = U R MR GAY
(hard to see the stars in that image up there)

Old news. This is a story from 2007:

I'm thinking coincidence. I mean, maybe not . . . but it's a pretty stupid message. The graphic artist who designed that cover is an industry veteran, probably over 40 years old. You don't go to work in-house at Nintendo (or at a major design firm with Nintendo as a client) right out of school. Honestly it just seems too stupid to be real.
-
I agree - it has to be a coincidence. If it were real wouldn't a better message be U R GAY? Why so formal?

it's engrish
-
Japanese culture is very formal. Lots of respect thrown around over there.
-
Its real. He is gay
-
hah! Guess I was 4 years late to the party, any other stuff like this out there? This wasn't so much a hidden message, but I remember when they made a big deal about an ign water seal on Okami cover art.
-

Actually, I believe 'u r' Mr Gay. Not Mario. :)
-
I dont appreciate your tone
-

Yes, it's much more polite to tell someone they are Mr Gay.
-
They delayed releasing this in England because they we're trying to come up with a way to do 'U R Sir Gay', but it just didn't work.
-
Ironically, they did release it in Uruguay.
-
I think the penises (penii?) on the cover of the little mermaid was more mind blowing.
-
Personally I'd bet good money it was intentional. Commercial artists do crap like that a LOT.
I think they really don't. Also, the message is just so stupid. If it just said U R GAY it would be one thing. But U R MR GAY is just retarded. It might be real, but I think it's more likely a coincidence. A really uninteresting coincidence.
-
Since they use an English title internationally, including Japan, I am thinking that the logo thing was probably a coincedence.
Who knows though.... :dunno
-
Anybody now Japanese? Maybe URMRGAY is a japanese word that means "U R GAY"
Am I the only one that finds it funny/oddly disturbing that cartoon penises blow Malenko's mind?

Not really....for Malenko, that's pretty par for course. ;D

Yeah but the penis on the little mermaid thing was caused by a disgruntled employee who did that as kind of a big middle finger to disney when he got fired. Not to mention it was blatantly obvious. This seems kind of stupid. :dunno

The whole original movie poster thing makes me laugh though...the guy supposedly hid only one penis within the drawing of the castle....to me that whole castle looked be made of ---Deutsche Frankfurters---. :lol
There was also a more obvious innuendo in the poster as well. He put the prince's hand over his crotch (but behind a rock), and had the little mermaids eyes fixed on his crotch.

Unfortunately, these things are usually unintentional:

Don't you mean "fortunately"?
I'm thinking the Mario Galaxy one is intentional. Two reasons: 1. As I stated before, the Japanese are very formal, and use titles often. Though this may be irrelevant depending on who drew the art. However, the second reason is more probable. They starred the M & R because they needed to star something in the middle word, else it would be obviously intentional. M & R were chosen because they were the best option.
And it sounds funnier this way.

So youre saying you want me to pick on you again?
I meant the "controversy" surrounding. I worked in a video store, I was like 14 or 15. No one gave a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, much like the mario galaxy cover. WTF is a Vigo?

I've read all these before, and while I agree with your general statement that most of these are unintentional, I have to disagree that the little mermaid thing is an open/shut case. Yeah, the rumors about some disgruntled artist are probably exaggerated, but that doesn't mean there is nothing to it. The article is more a denial from the artist who did the later version of the VHS art. When the original art looked like a castle made of ---Deutsche Frankfurters---, the extra dick on the VHS art really isn't the issue in my opinion.
Meh. :dunno

WTF is a Vigo?
I hear he's just some guy who pops out of a painting every so often to Sigourney Weaver's baby. The rest of the time he spends on the internet bitching about video games and complaining about his job....some damn chip on his shoulder about how nobody seems to want to hire a guy living in a painting.
:dunno

WTF is a Vigo?
:blah: :blah:
was rhetorical.

I never leave a good rhetorical question unanswered.

I dont care what anyone says. That spire looks like a fat dong. What else could it even possible look like? A flagpole? Even so, they are underwater, like mer people would have flags. PFFFFT. :dunno :lol
Vigo, does your voice sound as bad ass as Max Von Sydow? ;D

You know what they say, things look like what you want them to look like.

Meh. Its too early for me, and Im too hungover to think of a witty retort for that RayB.

I agree with you there. As a guy who used to draw constantly, I always was concerned with how other people interpreted my art. You just can't draw something like that, and not have it cross your mind of what it might be interpreted as.
Of course, there was that one time I was drawing a guy riding an ostrich like in Joust, but because of the frontside angle I drew the picture in, it just turned out looking like a guy ramming an ostrich in the ass. My teacher saw my drawing, called me a sicko, and took it away before I realized just how wrong it looked.

If my voice was nearly that bad ass, I would have way too much fun scaring children. The most I can do is a mediocre Clint Eastwood impersonation.

That is mind blowing

Penes (pronounced pee-knees)
No lie. Look it up!
And there is no question that there is a wang in the middle of those towers. Some of them are a bit of a stretch (absolute pun intended.) But the one in the middle is totally one.

I like how threads go sideways. Went from a question on a mario game cover to mind blowing example the depiction of cartoon ---Deutsche Frankfurters---, and the proper way to pluralize them..

Yeah, ain't that just the pee's knees?

Sadly enough, for around here, this thread is not too far off topic.
