Im building a little (well not so little) tabletop arcade machine for my nephew for Christmas... Ok not building currently, planning stage right now.. but If i dont start early I wont be done by Christmas :). I was going to build everything like I did with my own cab, but DANG! a Hotrod for $120 shipped is almost impossible to pass on.. I was planning on a 2 stick setup so its perfect.
Now my question, has anybody changes the top? I do not care for the Purple HOTROD logo. I was thinking I could cut a piece of Plexi and remove joysticks and buttons, put it on with an Image underneath like my own cab. Anybody eer done this? Anything I should be aware of that would not let me do this?

Well, you could take it apart and paint it. It's a little smooth so you might want to rub some course sandpaper over it.

better idea. Take it apart, cut out a rectangle where the logo is. Drop in a window like a computer case mod. Slap in your own logo behind the glass, add funkey blue lighting.

Probably will not work. You can take it apart easily but when you take off the top lexan the printing does not come with it. I usually delaminates and cannot be used again. The ink sticks to the glue and makes a mess. This is what I found when I tried to fix a corner of my Hot Rod when the lexan was lifting.
To replace the lexan you have to remove it and the gluey mess. It is very thin and comes up very easily. A replacement piece could be cut using the removed piece for a template. It could then be replaced with whatever graphic you desire underneath.

I've had 2 hotrods and neither had lexan on them. Is that new to the Hotrod?

No it has always been on it. The hotrod logo is printed on a thin lexan sheet along with the color and it is glued to the top of the hotrod. Not the thick lexan that is used on cabs.

Ok, here goes... The material Hanaho uses is called GE Lexan 10 mil Suede/Mat Polycarbonate. It comes in clear transparent rolls, and the printers print the graphics (silk screen) on the back side of this. By printing the graphics on the back it insures that the graphics WILL NOT rub off. Once it's dry a 3m adhesive is added, then cut, packaged and shipped to me.

My hotrods looked like they had vinyl or plastic but surely didn't have the slick look of lexan. Maybe I had older models.

It is a satin finish lexan sheet.
