Title: What would make a good Horizontal mini-cab replica? (joystick controls)
Post by: Bender on May 10, 2011, 11:32:54 pm
I want to make a Horizontal micro cab to go with my Micro Donkey Kong Cab (http://T-KFiIMtj0R8AICV6B7MFlFgJgO8@r2UzztuDBcl7B2DeU4DxCxstOmkYm6O0kbbcezJ)
There are a couple other nintendo cabs, but I'd like to do a different shape and color
so far I got:

Joust
Jungle Hunt
Elevator Action
Zoo Keeper
Defender (sometimes has a joystick)

Should have joystick controls
any other suggestions?

EDIT:---------------------------------------------

Ok updated list I'm considering, keep the suggestions coming!
I would like it to be 1 joystick and a couple of buttons ( so Robotron is out)
also because the selection is slimmer than I anticipated I'm putting nintendo back in there

Joust
Jungle Hunt
Elevator Action
Zoo Keeper
Defender (sometimes has a joystick)
Mario Bros. (orange cab)
Moon Parol
Berzerker
Neo Geo (wish the art was a little more interesting on these)

- Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition: in a Dynamo HS-5 (don't know if you can fit a single player 6button control on there)
- Neo Geo 4-slot (red) standup

I would pick something that is considered to be a classic so that it' s instantly recognisable. Of the games you listed there only Defender comes into that bracket (possibly Joust) imo. And the problem with Defender is then people would expect it to be playable. I don't think that control scheme would work on such a small scale. But then again if anyone could pull that off it would be you.  :notworthy:

What about Robotron with some buttons placed in between the sticks for other games? Will this be the same scale as the DK? Putting anything more than two action buttons in there could be a problem.

+1 neo geo 4 slot!  I think those are the best looking 80's cabs and would really present some challenges in the marquee, credit counter, etc...

Some other suggetions....some may be tall orders, but I have seen nothing short of amazing from your mini DK.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't notice the 1 joystick only part on your post....well, I'll leave my suggestions in tact just in case.  ;)

I'm working on a mini (not micro) Gauntlet cab, so let me know if you go with that I can share plans\art etc.

I'd love to see a micro Robotron (2 joystick CP)

I never really thought about it before, but there are really not many 1 joystick horizontal games out there.....

The one horizontal 1 player machine that I would LOVE to see is actually pretty uncommon, and I don't think it is even properly emulated yet..  :'(

I think the best horizontal, instantly recognizable arcade game you can do is a Dragons Lair or Space Ace

If the little computer can play back a DVD VIDEO_TS set, sure.  Daphne?  Your guess is as good as mine...

+1 for Dragons Lair!

+2 for Dragons Lair!!!!

Dragon's Lair would have been my first choice but I haven't been able to find a way to run that on the wiz yet

EDIT: this just might be possible through a sega CD emulator
oh, if it works we have a winner!!!!!!!

DING, DING, DING, we have a winner!!!!!

I did get DL to work on the Wiz!
although the sega CD quality is not as good as the arcade, at that scale it's not bad, also it's not 100% arcade accurate one board is missing and a couple moves are a little different, but I think it will do

I love the profile of Taito cabs so my vote would be Elevator Action.
