Anyone know where I can get some wicked thin stainable veneer? I need to match the grain of cabinet grade birch plywood. I need a fairly large piece - big enough to cover the side off a cocktail cabinet. Any leads would be appreciated!

Finally getting around to covering up that 3rd panel?

You can pick up veneer at most big box stores or lumber yards. I know home depot carries it in widths up to 24 inches.

Yup. I need to:
- cut out the CP and remove the coin door on that one side.
- cut out pieces of plywood to fill in the holes.
- bondo and sand
- add the veneer
- cut a new hole for the coin door (it needs to be higher now).
- stain and poly
That's doable in a weekend I think except for the stain and poly which will likely be spread out over a few nights to allow for drying.

Really? I haven't noticed... I'll have to check the Home Depot and see what they've got.

Good luck... I think a decent option might be laminating over whats already there. It still might only take a weekend... but it'll be a full weekend.

yeah - it won't be easy but I think it is completely doable. I don't think Home Depot sells veneers either - they have edge banding but that's obviously not what I'm going for.
I found THIS (http://www.oakwoodveneer.com/) site online and it looks like they sell what I will need but it will be expensive.
Also, I may have to make a separate thread but what are people using for cocktail monitors these days? I had a Happs Vision Pro but I moved it to my DK so I need to replace it. I might just go for a 19" CRT monitor but maybe there is a better solution? I'm worried about using an LCD due to viewing angles...

Really our Home Depots and Rona and such sell large rolls of veneer in the same place where the edge banding.

You can try Woodcraft or Rockler too

Thanks Bender. Check THIS (http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2008655/18032/White-Birch-Rotary-Cut-4X8-Veneer-Sheet-10MIL-Paper-Backed.aspx) out. I assume "pre-sanded and ready to finish" means I can apply stain and poly on this veneer, right?
$70 is steep but I have no option...

Yes that would mean that.. Its basically ready to roll ..

Don't go to Rockler or Woodcraft for veneer. They are super expensive.
Go here:
http://tapeease.com/10_mil_%20veneer.htm (http://tapeease.com/10_mil_%20veneer.htm)
You can get a 4 x 8 sheet of rotary cut Birch veneer for about 30 bucks. It will also be higher quality than the stuff you get from Woodcraft or Rockler. Their website is terrible, but their prices, service and product can't be beat.
Hope that helps!

Wow awesome - $30 is a no-brainer!
