Title: Ver. 2 Imperial Trackball???
Post by: NY_in_TX on August 29, 2003, 11:01:38 am
Anybody know anything about this trackball?

I just picked one up.  The seller said it was out of a 2004 GT, and is new.  I am guessing he popped in a trusty happ.

Looks just like a regular imperial, but the case is blue.

I picked it up for under 30 so either I finally out-sniped the snipers, or I missed the posting warning about the ebola infested flesh eating version 2 trackball.

seems like it should be a good ball.

I'm guessing it's the "golden tee", aka "high top", aka "high lip", aka "high rim", model.  Never seen a blue case though.  Any link to pics?

Looks like a descent unit.  What mounting plate will you use?

I am researching that now, but everything looks so far like I can just use the plain ol' happs one.

As soon as it comes in I'll take some measurements and compare them with the happs mounting diagrams to double check.

I had never seen a blue one before.  It's so pretty, I may just use lexan so you can see it  ;D.......or not ;)

Looks like my black betson 3", besides the color. ;)

If it is the golden tee model as he almost, but not quite, claims (& the picture is at the wrong angle to tell), you might need a 1/8" spacer if you aren't going to use lexan.  (If you get the TB from betson, it comes with the spacer.)  To check if it is, messure the height of the lip (aka ring, aka rim) around the ball, from top of the rest of the case to the top of the lip.  If the lip is ~3/16" high, you have the golden tee model.  If the lip is ~1/16", you don't (and maybe that's why it was pulled).  Betson (http://www.betson.com/product.asp?dept%5Fid=13570&sku=IMP++47%2D4305%2D02++++++++++++++++++) and happs (http://www.happcontrols.com/wp/item_search.html?item-no=95-1828-00) sell 1/8" spacers by themselves for cheap if you need one.  The happs mounting plate is ~1/16" thick.

Hey guys,

just a quick update on this thing.  I got it this morning and have played a couple of games of golden tee with it.  I am  very pleased with it.

The case is blue and has "Betson Imperial" across the top
It spins great.
It runs though my Oscar USB TB hack perfectly
No backspin (big problem of my current TB hack)
On the back it says "Version 2 trackball No Spacer Required"
and it has, as U_rebel suspected, a 1/16th lip around the ball.

it doesn't have a scratch on it, and the blue is very pretty.  The Happs TBall plate should fit it just right.  I'm going to mull over the installation for a bit. I love my 2.25" ball and the 8 ball in it, but this is SO much better for golden tee and marble madness.
