Title: Faulty ROM?
Post by: sapro on May 09, 2011, 12:06:48 pm
I have been struggling to finish the software setup for my machine. I was running Hyperspin with MAME .141 and a couple of the games wouldn't run. These games are on the MAME "working" list and I verified I had the .141 versions of them, but in Hyperspin when I select them it would act like it was opening the ROM, then would go right back to the Hyperspin menu.

I thought it was a version issue so I updated to MAME .142 and tried again with the .142 ROMS, same problem.

This is with a handful of games that, again, are verified on the list of "working" titles for MAME. The other 40+ games work fine.

Any ideas?

What roms?  Do you have a complete set of .141 or .142 that you are using?  Could they need the parent roms to run properly?  Any error messages?

Update your hyperspin mame database to the same version as your mame. I was having this issue as well.Sometimes roms get renamed in different versions and won't work right

Metal Slug 3, Simpsons Bowling, and the 2-player version of TMNT off the top of my head. I have the complete .142 set. I don't think they need parent ROMs, but how would I find out? No error messages.

If you mean mame.xml within the Hyperspin /databases/ dir it matches the filenames exactly.

You can check your roms and what is required in detail at MAWS (http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/)

MAME gamename -verify

it's been a while and don't think parameters in mame would be taken out.

Thanks guys. While I have the complete ROM set I was only putting the games I wanted into the folder within MAME. Duh... didn't realize the parents were required. I'm going to move the entire set in tonight and see if that helps but I believe that's the answer.
