if i use the joystick hole as a a starting point will i be able to route a joystick recession about 1/4 to 2/5 deep into 3/4 inch plywood / mdf? Thanks

Should work since it has adjustable cutting depth.   You would have to make sure those guide tabs are removable to allow the base to sit flat.

It looks like it is. Thanks for the reply. Will have to get a router bit for it what would work best?

Any straight cutting bit will work if you drill the hole for the joystick first and work out from it.
