Title: Do I need more than 2 buttons?
Post by: Smeghead on May 03, 2011, 12:34:26 pm
So im MAMEing this cocktail cab, probably going to keep it to fairly simple flippable cocktail style games, frogger, space invaders, pacman, lunar lander, Tetris, that kinda thing. Anything that only needs a one 4 four-way joystick and 2 or 3 buttons.

I was wondering to save space do I really need 3 buttons? Im trying to think of a game that needs 3 instead of 2?
Im not going to put track n field on it, or bank Panic, I have those on my mame full size cab.
Anything else I would really want on a cocktail cab that needs 3?

Check MAWS.  Select 4-way with 3 buttons, and see what comes up.

Nope.... there aren't any 4 way games that use 3 buttons.  If there is one, it's so rare and obscure I've never heard of it and thus you probably won't want to play it anyway.

Button 3 = both buttons pressed simultaneously  ;)

I didn't know Punch-Out was a 4-way. Makes sense, now that I think about it.

Tutankham is actually 2 sticks and 1 button. The right stick is only 2 way, to fire left and right. The button is for "flash" to kill everything on the screen. Of course, it could be done with 3 buttons instead of a 2nd joystick.
