Title: Street Fighter 2 Champions Edition
Post by: dugg8 on May 02, 2011, 05:31:12 pm
I've decided to build my second project with the theme of Street Fighter 2 CE. From my understanding there wasn't a cabinet design specifically for SF2CE, yet they used Dynamo cabinets for the most part. For my plans I'll be basing the cabinet off of Lusid's design with some tweaks.

Here is what I will be using for the build

3/4 MDF

Sony Wega 24in

19' Samsung CRT Flatscreen

Has anyone used a VGA to CGA converters? I've read several posts about people inquiring about them but no real reviews...

Finished adding on the batons and completed the control panel box. I'm really debating on whether to use DuraTex paint that is used for speaker cabinets or to go with laminate, I'll figure it out.

So I ended up getting the Duratex paint and applying it to the control panel box. I applied three coats and primer isn't needed, it has a nice textured satin finish. I also found a piece of formica counter at Lowe's for $11.00, I figure I'll use this for the control panel.

And finally......the base was drying on the driveway when my wife pulled in and drove right over it, crushing it.  :hissy:
So the project has been delayed.

Well its finally starting to look like an arcade, I was able to get quite a bit finished in the past few weeks. My focus now is on whether to use glass or plexi for the bezel. Also the coin door came in and the stock 'reject' buttons were light yellow color so I ended purchasing the red Happ reject buttons and replaced them, I think they look more authentic.

if you care to take alook here's my mame champion edition, has a 22"crt. if i didn't sell it off i would try and fit a 25-26 LCD. Go for the 24" The 19" would look too small and 22" is borderline IMO

Mametime

First off, nice cabinet. Looks real sharp. I think if you had the graphics on the bezel and the control panel it would have completed it. As it stands now, the 24 crt sony will not fit. I could mount it vertically.....

Thanks for the words of encouragement 8)

I was able to finish quite a bit today. The large piece of scrap laminate that I purchased at Lowe's was used for the control panel. Instead of using a square board I opted for something similar to the Tank Stick by x-arcade. Take a look at the pictures below.

I painted the other side today along with the top. I was also able to install an exhaust fan in the top/back portion of the cab.....nothing to exciting. Tomorrow the speaker panel should be finished so its definitely starting to come together. Thanks for the comments.

I've accomplished quite a bit this week considering the working conditions. Not only is it unbearably hot and humid this time a year in Ft. Lauderdale but there happens to be a new type of mosquito that's invaded South Florida and these insects are out for blood. Even though the conditions have been less than ideal I've pushed through and nearing completion. Heres what I finished this week

-installed moulding
-glass bezel cut
-installed speaker shelf w/ speakers
-installed marquee LED light
-cut marquee retainer
-installed rear access door

I plan on ordering all my graphics this weekend.

Heres a couple pics

Yea, using the Dremel to cut the case off the TV was an ugly process but it worked! I'll be ordering the graphics later this week so I'm excited about that. Only thing is the piece of formica that I was going to used ended up warping so I'll need to buy some laminate at Home Depot this weekend, I wonder if they sell it in small sheets....

@Louis -  SF2 CE was the arcade game that always stands out in my mind. Waiting in long lines for a chance to play, it was THE game to play.

Looking good.  I definitely understand the weather conditions.  It's been raining whenever I have time to go out and pick up wood :badmood:  That's South FL for ya tho.

I look forward to seeing more from this build.

Will this be your first project? What theme do you plan on using?

Yeah, it'll be my first one.  I plan on building a bartop since I'm building it for my girlfriend as a b-day present and she doesn't have the space for a full one. She likes the Fantastic Four so I'm planning on making a FF theme to it.

That is, if I can ever go out and get the wood for it....

Looks great - has the paint on the side gone funny or is it a bad angle/flash?
